Choosing a recovery partner for your fleet? Two accreditations are worth asking about.

✅ PAS 43 - the recognised safety standard for vehicle breakdown, recovery and roadside operations. It covers how work is carried out safely at the roadside, for technicians and for other road users.

✅ NHSS17 - the National Highway Sector Scheme for vehicle recovery and roadside assistance, setting the quality standard for working on the road network.

CWT Group operates to both PAS 43 and NHSS17 (2021) standards across our 24/7 recovery service.

Why it matters to you: when one of your vehicles is stranded, you want to know the team on the way works safely, professionally and to a recognised standard. Accreditation is how you know.

October is Tyre Safety Month 🛞

TyreSafe's campaign this year is 'Act Before You REact' – and for fleet operators, tyres are one of the simplest things to get right and one of the costliest to get wrong.

The ACT check takes minutes:

A: Air pressure: check against the manufacturer's recommendation, when tyres are cold

C: Condition: look for cuts, bulges, cracks or anything embedded in the tread

T: Tread: at least the legal minimum (1.6mm for cars and light vans, 1mm for larger vehicles) – but don't wait until you hit it

Build it into every driver walkaround check, not just when something feels wrong.

Breaking down in an HGV is stressful – but what you do in the first 60 seconds matters most.

⬅️ Go left – hard shoulder, emergency area or lay-by if you can
💡 Hazard lights on (sidelights too if it's dark)
🦺 Hi-vis on, if it's within easy reach
🚪 Exit on the side away from traffic – and don't go back to the cab
🛑 Get behind the barrier, well away from the traffic
📞 Stuck in a live lane? Stay belted in and call 999. Otherwise, call National Highways on 0300 123 5000, then your recovery provider.

⚠️ And remember: never use a warning triangle on a motorway.
