Thinking about getting an EV? There’s one extra cost you’ll now need to consider: electric cars are no longer exempt from road tax ⚡

Since 1 April 2025, electric vehicles have been required to pay Vehicle Excise Duty (VED).

Here’s what you could pay:
🔋 EVs registered on or after 1 April 2025: £10 in the first year, followed by £200 a year
📅 EVs registered between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2025: £200 a year
🚘 EVs registered between 1 March 2001 and 31 March 2017: £20 a year

New electric cars with a list price of more than £50,000 may also be subject to the Expensive Car Supplement for five years, starting from the second year.
