Last day of the at MCR Met Racing! Last but most certainly not least is our diff plate designed by Ross Taylor

The diff plate is a rear bulkhead used to close out the rear of the chassis and to mount the rear suspension, differential, engine mounts, etc.
This design aims to increase the flexibility of mounting the components on the rear of the car and improve on aesthetics. This design brings with it a reduction in mass over the equivalent steel tubes, brackets and weld material with it being made from high grade Aluminium.

It's the second-to-last day of the and today we're looking at MCR MET Racing's cheese wheel from FSUK Silverstone 2019!

MCR MET Racing completed scrutineering in one of our fastest times at our last event. This is due to our team being eager to get up and going early in the day, allowing us to be one of the first teams in the queue to show off our hard work to the scrutineers. We're working to achieve even smoother scrutineering this year, and are looking forward to completing another cheese wheel at FSUK 2020!

day 5 and today we're celebrating Sajjad Bahmani Sangesari 's 3D printed plenum design.

Its 400 grams lighter and doesn't wobble like the previous carbon fibre one which means it's more reliable and it won't implode. We wanted to feed more air into the engine despite rule restrictions, which was the main objective as well as reach high torque at 7300 rpm.

We faced difficulties faced like the limitation of the space we had due to surface envelope restrictions. We created our own cobra head design which is an efficient way to overcome 90 bends flow failures.

The design benefited from Fluid CFD simulations, static FEA SolidWorks simulations as well as Wave tuning Kelvin Helmholtz resonance calculations.

On day 4 of MCR Met Racing's we're looking at the suspension, designed by Polina Ozz

Fortuna had a light weight tubular wishbone design, featuring adjustable camber on the rear to improve performance in different dynamic events. Both front and rear suspensions were equipped with anti-roll bars with multiple adjustable stiffness settings to improve handling on track.

Day 3 of the and we're taking a look at Fortuna's steering rack designed by Leo Batty!

We use a rack and pinion for steering actuation. The rack housing was designed and manufactured in-house from aluminium and carbon-fibre, providing a weight saving of 40% compared with the previous years purchased system.
This year we are looking into new manufacturing techniques for the housing. 3D printing is less energy intensive and can help us to save on cost.

Today on the we're looking at MCR MET Racing's first aerodynamic package, focusing on the rear wing designed by Ruben Lally

The main benefit of our aerodynamics package is that it produces down force which improves the cornering capability of the car at higher speeds.
The aerodynamics package was manufactured entirely in house and consists of a front and rear wing. Both the front and rear wing feature duel element aerofoil designs. Each aerofoil is constructed from carbon fibre with a foam core.
To improve the performance of the aerodynamics package this year will be producing a diffuser. The diffuser is very efficient and expected to generate 40% of the car’s total downforce, so it will have a significant impact on the cornering performance. We are also aiming to reduce the mass of the aerodynamics package by manufacturing hollow carbon fibre aerofoils and carbon fibre end plates.

This January, MCR Met Racing is taking part in the ! 7 days, 7 photos of nothing but close-up parts of the car. This time we will be focusing on Fortuna, our FS2019 car that gained us 17th place in FSUK and 12th place at FSN. Take a look at our excellent designs, starting with our wheels, designed by Tom Morley

The centre-less wheel design used on the car is a part consolidation of the hub, lug nuts and wheel centre. The main reason for this design is to reduce the number of components and reduce the mass on the unsprung side of the vehicle. A reduction of 1 kg of unsprung mass is said to be equivalent to 4 kg of sprung mass, making it a desirable area to shed weight. Less mass on the suspension side of the vehicle improves the dynamic capabilities of the car.
The design resulted in a 22% and 19%, front and rear respectively, mass reduction and allowed for an increase in wheel diameter from 10” to 13”.
This year research into the use of 3D printing will be conducted to further reduce the mass of the wheels. The method of manufacturing will be Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) with the aim to reduce infill density in areas where stress are less.

It was an amazing experience exhibiting at Autosport International Show 2020 to represent Manchester Metropolitan University and inspire the younger generation to get involved with projects like IMechE Formula Student and MotoStudent.
It was a long four days packed with excitement and networking. We made some new friends RGU Racing Logo Me Up and got a chance to catch up with some old ones too DTAfast, Force Racing Wheels ltd, Camcoat Performance Coatings. It was an absolute pleasure to be there!
