Specialist Operations Academy – Relaunching Soon

Over the last 12 months or so, SOA has been deliberately quiet - not through inactivity, but through focus.

During this time, we have worked closely with specialist trainers to design, challenge, and refine what we believe will be one of the most comprehensive and professionally structured protection driving programmes available.

As we move towards a formal relaunch in the coming months, we’re pleased to share what’s underway: a new, purpose-built website, additional UK training locations to improve accessibility, and a refreshed delivery model led by operationally credible, highly experienced trainers.

Our priority throughout this period has been quality over speed - redefining standards, refining learning outcomes, and ensuring our training develops drivers who are safer, more capable, and better prepared for real-world protection driving roles.

Designed in collaboration with specialist trainers and industry experts, at the top of our portfolio sits our 6 Day Protection Driving Course - our flagship programme and the benchmark we hold ourselves to.

We believe the protection driving sector thrives when training is developed by experienced specialists, validated through operational testing, and delivered to consistently high standards.

A new inquiry by the Transport Committee will investigate how standards for taxis and private hire vehicles (PHVs) could be improved, amid concern about inadequate regulation that varies from one area of the country to another.

For example -The Greater Manchester Combined Authority is among those calling for a change in the law, after a Freedom of Information Act disclosure showed that 9,000 drivers registered with Wolverhampton City Council reside in the Greater Manchester area.
Additionally, ‘cross-border licensing’ has given rise to the case of Wolverhampton City Council, where 96% of its taxi and PHV licenses have been awarded to drivers from outside of the city.
