In our latest ... A warning light is easy to ignore — until it turns out to be something more involved.

This VW Golf came into our Manchester workshop with its engine management light on. A diagnostic check quickly pointed us in the right direction, but once we started investigating, there was more going on than first appeared.

We traced the fault, carried out the necessary repairs and got the Golf back on the road.

Tyres and brakes go together like coffee and cream.

The rain is back — how are your tyres looking?

After such a long dry spell, wet roads can catch drivers out. Built-up dirt and deposits can make the surface greasy, stopping distances increase and standing water brings the added risk of aquaplaning.

That makes now a very good time to give your tyres a proper check.

Look for:

• Low or uneven tread
• Cracks or damage
• Incorrect pressures
• Tyres that are simply getting old and tired

IF HOTTER SUMMERS ARE THE NEW NORMAL, IT PAYS TO BE PREPARED.

High temperatures don’t just take their toll on us - they can be hard on your car too.

Hot roads and long journeys put extra strain on tyres, so check pressures when they’re cold and look for signs of damage or excessive wear. Make sure coolant and oil levels are topped up, carry water with you and, where possible, set off early or before the hottest part of the day.

Manchester gets a little welcome relief this weekend, with temperatures dropping to around 21°C on Saturday and 19°C on Sunday.
