We always enjoy people bringing their cars to us.... and sometimes we get to see some really special cars.
Being a fast Ford fan for many years and having owned a few, I was very excited to see we were getting a Ford RS200 coming for an MOT. A dream car for me from being a young lad.

The Ford Model Y is an automobile that was produced by Ford Britain, Ford SAF and Ford Germany from 1932 to 1937. It was the first Ford automobile specifically designed for markets outside the United States, replacing the Model A in Europe. Even by the standards of the time, the UK-built Ford 8, like its major competitor the Austin 7, was found noteworthy for its "almost unbelievable lack of brakes”.

With its 8hp side valve engine, the Ford 7Y car was officially marketed as a Ford Eight, and was a rebodied and slightly larger version of the Model Y. A minor facelift, unveiled in September 1939, resulted in the first Anglia.

The Ford Anglia 100E and later 105E were cars produced by Ford U.K. for the family car of the English working man. These 1950s and 1960s version are the de riguer cars of Heartbeat with Nick Berry. Officially only small engines were fitted but popular hot rods of the Seventies could have Cortina engines and Carlos Fandango Superwide Wheels too. Some can fly if you’re a wizard.

In 1967,came a new attack in the small family car market, the Ford Es**rt. The American giant had opened up the family market with the Cortina, but as that model grew in size, they saw the niche for a more compact saloon for the family. This rear wheel drive car also triggered the market for warmed up versions of the family wagon. RS1600, RS1800 and RS2000 are the road racer of the 70s, and my personal favourite, the Es**rt Twin Cam.

In 1980, Ford introduced the new Es**rt. For the second time only, the engine was driving the wheels at the wrong end. The front wheel drive Es**rt would survive for four iterations before the name was retired; interesting is was nearly called the Erika. Names like XR3i and RS Turbo would become the boy racers dreams of the 80’s and 90’s and prime targets of the plague of the “twoc’ers”!

This week is a look back at the car that working class England made there own. From family runaround to performance cars of the era. These were the cars that successive generations dreamt about, went to work in and washed every Sunday in the Wimpey housing estates.

The Ford Focus is a top three best selling car in the U.K. It may be built in Germany but for many British people “Ford” has origins in Great Britain: confusing as it’s clearly American! From frugal diesels to mighty petrol turbos, there has always been a model for most people. The first Focus was a step-change in medium car motoring; can Ford raise the bar again?

I tried to be a bit more subjective this week. I looked at the power to weight ration of the bikes, and I compared their top speed to to the fastest bikes of the their era. These bikes were sold as giant killers. Finally I ranked them as their effect on the market; were they a bike that people remember and probably dream about owning now. Not sure the whole ranking is correct, but here we go.

The Yamaha R5 is a motorcycle made by Yamaha for production years 1970 (R5), 1971 (R5B) and 1972 (R5C). It was the first iteration of a new generation of horizontally split crankcase two strokes that also included the RD350 and culminated in the RD400. These truly were the giant killers.
