🛣️ MOTORWAY DRIVING – IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT GOING FASTER🚗

For many drivers, their first motorway journey can feel daunting. Even experienced drivers can be caught out by changing speed limits, heavier traffic and wider roads.

Remember:

🚦 Speed limits can change quickly – Always keep an eye on overhead gantry signs and adjust your speed smoothly.

🚗 Don't let the road fool you – Wide, open motorways can make you feel like you're travelling slower than you actually are. Regularly check your speedometer to avoid "speed creep."

👀 Observation is everything – Check your mirrors frequently, anticipate traffic ahead and always be aware of vehicles in your blind spots.

⏱️ Keep a safe following distance – Leave at least a 2-second gap in dry conditions and at least 4 seconds when it's wet.

😴 Long journeys can be tiring – Fatigue affects your concentration and reaction times. If you're feeling tired, take a break at the next service area. A short rest could save your life.

☀️🌧️ WET ROADS + BRIGHT SUN = A HIDDEN DRIVING HAZARD 🚗

One of the most dangerous combinations on UK roads isn't always heavy rain or thick fog...

It's bright sunshine on wet roads.

The sun reflecting off a wet road surface can create intense glare, making it much harder to see:
👀 Pedestrians
🚴 Cyclists
🚗 Other vehicles
🚦 Road signs and traffic lights

At the same time, wet roads mean:
💧 Less grip
🛑 Longer stopping distances
⚠️ A greater risk of skidding or aquaplaning

Stay safe by:
