We're all feeling the pinch at the moment and people are putting off necessary repairs to cars to help ends meet, especially younger drivers.
The RAC has found that 37% of 17 to 24-year-old drivers are cutting back on what they spend on maintaining their cars.
Nearly a fifth (16%) say they are delaying major repairs – including replacing a handbrake or cracked windscreen – while 28% are putting off minor repairs, such as small oil leaks or replacing brake discs.
The good news is that most people are still getting their cars serviced regularly, with just 9% saying they had cut back.
Putting off repairs or servicing can help save money today, but could lead to bigger problems and more expensive repairs down the line.
And as this week saw the first frost of the autumn, it's worth making sure your car is ready for winter.
One of the biggest reasons for roadside callouts at this time of year is cars not starting and the battery is usually the reason for it. It's important to make sure the battery not only charges but holds its charge. If it is continually difficult to start in the cold, it might need replacing.
It's also worth making sure the engine has the correct oil so that it doesn't thicken or even freeze, as well as making sure the coolant contains the right mix of anti-freeze.
In cold temperatures, it's important that tyre pressure is correct so it doesn't affect steering and braking.
Wipers are also affected by extreme temperatures and it's important they keep the windscreen clear from dirt and rain.
Properly maintaining cars, vans and bikes is the best way to help them last longer and keep everyone safe.
