We recently completed this job for a very lucky customer. The dreaded Vauxhall Astra timing chain. This one had a broken chain guide, an old style tensioner and a stretched chain.

This is a very labour intense job, needing to remove all the injectors to get the rocker cover off, and remove the EGR, gearbox, clutch and flywheel to get to the timing chain.

An all new timing chain kit was fitted with the upgraded tensioner, plus a new clutch and dual mass flywheel. While we were in there we also cleaned the air intake, EGR and cooler.

This 2021 Peugeot 1.2 Puretech came into us with an oil leak. With just one look in the oil cap we knew it needed the wet belt/timing belt changed ASAP. As you can see from the photos, this is one of the worst we have had in! The oil pick up was completely blocked and the belt was seriously deteriorated and cracked. The vehicle only had 37k miles on the clock!

These 1.2 PureTech engines are found in Peugeot, Citroen and Vauxhall vehicles and can burn up to 1L of oil every 4000 miles. Running the engine low on oil, topping up with the incorrect oil and not being serviced every 10000 miles all contributes to the belt cracking and disintegrating which can damage your engine.

If you have one of these vehicles, please get it checked before it's too late. If you are unsure, just pop in and we can have a look for you.
Preventative maintenance is key and regular physical checks under your bonnet can save you money in the long run.

This customer broke down one evening only half a mile from their usual garage. Depsite being prepared for this situation with breakdown cover, they were told the RAC couldn't get to them until the next morning and instead had to phone for private recovery to be charged over £200 to have the car taken half a mile down the road!

Their usual garage couldn't look at the car for a few days so as their vehicle is vital for business they contacted us here at CRB Garage Services to see if we could help. We offer an in-house recovery service and love anything clutch related, so we picked the car up and managed to squeeze it in the workshop the same day. Luckily it was just the clutch master cylinder, so we worked late to get the new part fitted all within 24 hours of the breakdown, and even returned the car to their home address the next day.

If only they knew they could call us first, they would have saved over £200! Our charge for recovery and redelivery combined was significantly less than half of this and we transported the vehicle approximately 20 miles.

This Smart Forfour recently came into us on recommendation by another local garage. It came in with a terrible rattle when running, and after investigation we suspected it was the timing chain.

There's not much room to work on these with the engine in the boot so it was easier to take the engine out. This customer was incredibly lucky. Once stripped down we found a broken chain guide, a chain tensioner fully out, and a stretched chain. It was so stretched that we could get a finger under the other chain guide. We had no idea how this car was still running and in time.

We fitted a new timing belt kit, water pump, auxiliary belt and tensioner, and carried out a full service. The car is now running perfectly and back with one very happy customer.

This one was towed in by the RAC 🟠

The concentric slave cylinder had started leaking and the customers clutch pedal went straight to the floor. We fitted a new 3 piece clutch kit and had the vehicle ready to collect in under 24 hours 🙌 We pride ourselves on our quick turnaround and customer service.

Busy day in the workshop today!

We've got one in for a service and MOT prep on the ramp, a non starter in for diagnostics, and a fuel filter change on the floor. In between we're working on an exciting project for one of our long term customers involving his two classic Golfs - its a privilege and a pleasure to be trusted with a big project like this and we can't wait to reveal all soon!! 🫣🤩

Regular maintenance is key in preventing breakdowns and costly repairs.

Quite often we get cars coming in that haven't had a service in a number of years, which has lead to issues that could have been prevented. What's even more alarming is the number of vehicles we see that have supposedly been serviced regularly yet still have their original filters. When booking a service, its important make sure you know what's included and that you are getting what you pay for!
