70 YEARS AGO TODAY โ ECURIE ECOSSE WON LE MANS ๐
On 29 July 1956, Ecurie Ecosse achieved one of the greatest victories in British motorsport history.
At the wheel of the Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar D-Type #4, Ninian Sanderson and Ron Flockhart completed 300 laps of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans to take overall victory.
Against the might and resources of the factory teams of Ferrari, Aston Martin, Jaguar and Porsche, Ecurie Ecosse took on the giants of international motorsport โ and beat them.
But this remarkable achievement belonged to more than two exceptional drivers. It was a triumph for David Murray and the entire Ecurie Ecosse team โ the mechanics, engineers and everyone behind the scenes whose skill, determination and dedication made victory possible.
An independent Scottish team against the might of the worldโs leading manufacturers.
Ecurie Ecosse won.
Today, 70 years later, we celebrate Ninian Sanderson, Ron Flockhart, David Murray and every member of that remarkable team who made 29 July 1956 a defining day in Scottish motorsport history.
29 July 1956 โ 29 July 2026
