Well done Maranca - passing first time with a few driver faults in Chelmsford. Not easy for the examiners or instructors and particularly for you as the learner to take a test starting from a hotel in very strange circumstances, but you handled it well. You have been a pleasure to teach and both you and your sister are great at learning, very disciplined in your approach to learning along with being great company in the car. I will miss our lessons but wish you every success in the future. Thanks for choosing Jill’s wheels.

Just a heads up for anyone using a cancellation app looking for driving tests:

If the DVSA find anyone using a cancellation app to find a quick test, they are cancelling the test and suspending them for a period of 12 months.

They have suspended 4,500 accounts at the moment!!!

We are making our pupils aware and just want to send the message out to warn everyone.

Really hope they are clamping down finally on the right people who have been exploiting the system and hopefully we can get back to a sensible system of candidates being able to book tests within a reasonable time and not have to wait 6 months like at present.

Driving Tests Update

The DVSA have been clamping down on illegally booked driving tests since the new rules were introduced recently. This means if you have used a third party app to book or manage your test you could have it cancelled.

The DVSA (who run the tests) sent out some new information today.

They have CANCELLED 450 tests so far.

They have placed 4034 online booking SUSPENSIONS on the system.

(if you have been affected by this you must now ring them directly to book a test and are no longer allowed to use the online booking system)

They have had 17 APPS successfully removed from Apple and Google (this includes those that scan the booking site for cancellations and then you log in and book, they are not allowed to do this)

They have asked all us driving instructors to tell our pupils…

1. DO NOT use unofficial apps or websites to find or book a test slot.

2. DO NOT book a test through anyone on social media.

3. ONLY ever use GOV.UK - It’s free and secure.

If you ignore this advise the DVSA can SUSPEND your online booking service. They’d can CANCEL you test. You could lose HUNDREDS of pounds with no way to get it back.

If you need to move your test then speak to your driving instructor if you have one. Many driving instructors are collaborating to put pupils in touch with one another so that they can swap tests. You will both need to be available, one will have to call and give details of the other candidate then the DVSA will contact them and seek authorisation. This can be time consuming may may take several hours in total.

Students can now only swap their test 2 times and only to a local test centre.

So if your test centre is at Chelmsford then you can move your test to

Why is this happening?

Well, for a while now you may have noticed that it has become increasingly harder to book a driving test pushing people to use third party apps and black market sellers. This means that due to the profitability more and more of these types of test re-sellers have popped up removing all of the available tests for the rest of you and for those that can get a test being forced to pay a premium. The only price you should have to pay is £62 for a standard weekday test and £75 for weekends and bank holidays. The DVSA have been trying to stop these re-sellers from hiding/holding the tests and creating an unfair advantage for a premium. If it works hopefully no-body should be using 3rd party apps or re-sellers and we should all be on an even footing and not be able to not have a driving test just because you can’t afford to pay £250 for an inflated test that you should have been able to book anyway at £62. 🫣💸 Whether their methods are right or wrong and whether they work are yet to be proven. But hopefully someday soon we should all have the opportunity to book a driving test for when we want it and at the DVSA set price.

This is similar to how I teach although I like my learners to use their own perception because there are so many different ways to park and as long as effective observation throughout, even if it doesn’t go into space the first time as long as it’s safe
