VJ Day 80 – National Moment of Reflection
At midday today our teams at all Haynes locations will pause for the national two-minute silence to honour the 80th anniversary of VJ Day — the day Imperial Japan surrendered bringing the Second World War to an end on 15th August 1945.
Our phones will not be answered at this time.

Let us remember the courage and sacrifice of all who served in the Far East and across the Commonwealth and come together in gratitude and remembrance.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

On this significant day, we remember and honour the bravery and sacrifice of all those who fought during World War II.

At midday today our teams at all Haynes locations will be observing the national 2 minutes silence to pay our respects and reflect on the courage and resilience of the Greatest Generation. Phones will not be answered during this time.

Let us come together in gratitude and remembrance. 🌺

On Wednesday, 26th March 2025, our Chairman and CEO, Andrew Haynes, along with our Group MD, James Broadley, proudly received the ‘Mega Growth Certificate’ at a Business Breakfast held at the Tudor Park Hotel. This prestigious award, supported by the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, celebrated the top 50 fastest-growing businesses in Kent, based on four years of turnover growth.

Our success follows the expansion of our Agricultural business into Hampshire, Berkshire, and West Sussex, and our Ford business into East Kent. As one of Kent’s oldest family businesses, it is very positive to still be growing and to be part of Kent’s top growth businesses. We recently found this image online of Maidstone's High Street, (date unknown.) Haynes of course occupied the premises on the rear left of this photo from 1832 up until 1959. We sold ironmongery, hardware and ironware, plus installed the first hot water heating system and electric light systems. Did you know we also installed the first telephone in Maidstone from a Doctors house to his surgery ?

With March 1st being a recent phenomenon for New Vehicle Registrations (the current age identifier started in September 2001) we thought we would look back through our history for some photos of cars lined up for handover to their new owners...
However, with such a long history we were able to go back 105 years to 1920 to find an advert placed in the Gazette, to invite an inspection of our stock of cycles, able to be purchased from just £11 !

Don't forget to keep an eye out this weekend for those "25" registration new vehicles and if you have purchased a new reg, enjoy and safe driving.

Todays we found online rather than from our own archives, it features a Sittingbourne customer William Elvy Ltd., taking delivery of a Ford D1000 in 1969 from our Maidstone Sales Department.
Elvy used their fleet of vehicles to collect fruit and vegetables from around the area and take into London to deliver to the London markets.
