Our OLAT - Practical Transport Managers course was designed for restricted licence holders, directors (who still hold responsibility for the operators licence with or without a TM) and new Transport Managers to gain an understanding and get real practical knowledge of the operators licence requirements and the expectations of the Traffic Commissioners.

We look at the undertakings and break them down based on the day to day operations in an easy to understand way. If you're driving goods vehicles over 2.5 tonnes on international runs between the UK and EU for hire and reward, this one's for you.

From 1 July 2026, vehicles like yours will need a smart tachograph 2 fitted, and you'll need to follow the same drivers' hours rules that HGV drivers already work to.

These rules are there to protect your health and safety on the road. Getting a booking for a tachograph fitting takes around 4 to 6 weeks on average, and with July coming around faster than you'd think, now is the time to get it sorted. Leaving it to the last minute could mean you're not road-legal for international jobs.

Not sure if this affects you? If you're only driving within the UK, or doing international trips for your own account where driving isn't your main job, you're not in scope.

Please be aware that our local station, Harrietsham, along with all other surrounding stations on the Southeastern line between Ashford and Borough Green, will be CLOSED due to major rail engineering works, from Saturday 23rd May to Sunday 31st May 2026.

If you are travelling to us via train between these dates, especially for students attending either of our OLAT Course on the 23rd May or our TMCPC Course commencing on 26th May, you must arrange alternative transport in advance (for example, drive, replacement bus service, taxi, or being dropped off). Please note we have plenty of parking.

Yesterday, we supported a fleet operator through a Public Inquiry and achieved a successful outcome we were pleased to support.

One of the clearest themes in the hearing: Compliance systems matter. Having the right systems in place will help prevent action being taken. Good robust systems that are monitored are key to any transport operation. Remember, if you cannot provide evidence, then in the eyes of the DVSA and TC, it never happened.

Key points for any operator:
- Tachograph and drivers’ hours controls must be systematic (download routines, unaccounted mileage checks, infringement review, clear ownership)
- Agreements and key policies must be documented, signed, and retrievable when requested
- Management checks must be completed and recorded.
