As part of a full service on this 2018 BMW M2 Competition, it required 6 new spark plugs. This required a bit more of a strip down than most cars as can be seen below!
Also, whilst we had the car in we replaced the four rear subframe bolts, which due to poor design, are suffering with corrosion due to water build up. The new modified bolts allow the water to hopefully drain away. Preventative maintenance just in case the subframe ever has to be removed later on down the line 🙂

Huge congratulations to Macclesfield FC for beating the FA Cup holders, Crystal Palace 2-1 in today's third round match.
It's a huge boost for the team, the supporters and the whole town, given recent events.

We're now in the busy MOT season, so if you're an existing customer, when you receive your MOT reminder from us, please don't ignore it. We send it out one calendar month before your MOT expires so you can have your MOT done at anytime during this period.
We have two MOT test bays and will be regularly doing 15+ MOTs a day for the next two months, so if you leave it to the last minute, you may not get the day & time for an MOT that's most convenient for you. So beat the rush and get booked in plenty of time 🙂

Having had Ford engines and then Peugeot / Citroen engines with them, now Honda have joined in the practice of using a "wet" timing belt on their 1.0 litre 3 cylinder turbo engine they use in the Honda Civic.
This practice of running the rubber camshaft timing belt inside the engine exposed to oil causes the issue that the rubber degrades quickly potentially blocking the oil pump pickup.
Fortunately, the replacement interval isn't too excessive at either 75K miles or 6 years.
Here are a few pictures of one that we changed recently. Again this is a bigger job than normal as the timing cover has to be removed to gain access to the belt. Whilst it's stripped down, the oil pump drive belt is also replaced along with a new tensioner. We used genuine Honda parts finished off with oil & filter change.
The belt on this particular vehicle wasn't in too bad a shape but had only done 40K miles despite it being over 7 years old.

We had a Ford Focus recovered to us this week with the oil pressure warning light on. As this had the 1.0 Litre Ecoboost engine we were fairly sure that this was due to the "wet" timing belt breaking up and blocking the oil pickup. Sure enough, on strip down we found it completely blocked. This was the worst one we have seen so far.
The pictures below show the oil pump pickup screen and inner filter before and after we cleaned it, along with how the belt had deteriorated. The car was 11 years old and overdue the belt replacement but had done less than 50K miles. We suspect it had not been serviced regularly.
We rebuilt it using a new Ford timing belt kit, oil pump belt & water pump along with a full oil & filter change using the correct specification Castrol oil.
The engine now has good oil pressure and we will be recommending regular oil changes to the customer for the future.
