tems were invented to help reduce smoke and pollution emitted from vehicles in major city's. The filter holds soot and emission created by your engine in a small ceramic chamber located in your exhaust. When your vehicle is driven at a certain speed and rpm, pressure in the system causes the soot to be expelled through the back of the exhaust and into the atmosphere in smaller particles. If the filter is too clogged up the soot particles start forming behind the system and exhaust gases are no longer able to escape through the exhaust system. Engines are like humans, they need to breath in and they need to breath out, when you stop them breathing out they can no longer function. In order to fix this problem we remove the blocked filter so that the vehicle can breath. We then tell the ECU (engine control unit, your cars computerised brain) we have made a change and this allows the vehicle to run more efficiently.
