Home of the Contessa sailing yacht and the Atlas Carbon davit range. Jeremy Rogers Ltd has been in business since 1961 when Jeremy started building boats in his back yard in his home town of Lymington. Within 10 years Jeremy's Contessa brand became one of the most successful names in the yachting world and one of the largest boat manufacturers in Britain. Production included Contessas ranging in size from the traditional 26 to the Doug Peterson designed grand prix 35s, 39s and 43s, many of which were exported to a worldwide market. The most popular of all the Contessas was undoubtedly the Contessa 32, Fastnet 1979 survivor and the small blue water cruiser of choice for countless adventurous short handed and single handed sailors since then. Today, a limited number of these much-loved classics are built to order adding to the more than 650 already sailing all over the world. Contessa refurbishments are another speciality of the yard in Lymington along with repair and refurbishment of all boats. Jeremy Rogers' company has long been involved in industrial moulding and today includes in it's manufacturing profile the Atlas Carbon davit range and other bespoke carbon fibre products like passarelles and carbon lifting beams.

This week, we’ve seen some fantastic progress on our new-build Contessa 32! ⚓️

Since you last saw us cracking hull no. 28 out of its mould, we’ve copper-coated her and fitted the main bulkheads, which gave us the reference points for the spacing and positioning of everything else inside the boat.

We’ve also been working on the rest of the internal structure, with the water tank in place, the cabin sole fitted and the engine feet secured. Once everything was lined up, the deck was lifted off, giving the team better access to carry on fitting out the interior.

Wishing everyone a great weekend, and we’re looking forward to getting stuck into the furniture, pipework and electrics next week as this Contessa 32 continues to take shape. 💙

Since sharing the updates on our new build, we’ve often been asked whether the Contessa 32 has changed over the years.

Here, Simon Rogers, our Managing Director, answers this popular question and takes a closer look at what’s stayed the same and what we’ve refined along the way.

The classic design remains, but there have been refinements to how we build them—including a vinyl ester resin barrier to improve resistance to osmosis, and upgrades to the moulds to make production easier.

This month, we’ve welcomed Contessa 26 Samphire of Hurst (previously named Jiminy Cricket) into the Jeremy Rogers yard for a refit ahead of a voyage to Norway.

She’s already had a successful year on the water, winning both the Contessa 26 class and the overall title at the Royal Solent Yacht Club Contessa Regatta.

Her owner, Susannah Seely, is no stranger to a Contessa adventure, having previously sailed around Britain with her sister-in-law, Didi Nicholson. The pair bought Seahorse, a Contessa 26 built in 1969, together in 2017, with a voyage around Britain already in mind. Seahorse had completed the trip once before with a young solo sailor in the 1980s, and in 2021, it was their turn.

Setting off from Yarmouth, they sailed past Land’s End, around Cape Wrath and through the Orkneys. Along the way, dolphins kept them company all night across the Bristol Channel, and they spent 24 hours sheltering from a storm in Loch Tarbert, out of contact. They returned 67 days and around 2,000 miles later, having raised more than £11,000 for South Wight Area Youth Partnership.

Now, from one Contessa to another, Susannah has Norway on the horizon, and we’re helping prepare Samphire for the journey. We’ll be sharing progress on her refit over the coming weeks, catching up with her owners, then following their next adventure once she’s back on the water!

We are delighted to hear that this year’s Contessa Regatta has been recognised with a Royal Yachting Association Impact Award!

Presented to the Contessa Regatta organisers and competitors, the award celebrates the time, energy and passion that made the event such a meaningful success. The RYA letter described the regatta as a celebration of heritage, community and competitive sailing, bringing together participants of all abilities both on the water and ashore – and we couldn’t agree more.

“More than just a sailing event, the regatta was also recognised for celebrating the enduring legacy of the Contessa class and the remarkable impact that one man’s boatbuilding vision continues to have on the sailing community today.”

A huge congratulations to Royal Solent Yacht Club, the organisers, volunteers and every competitor who helped make the event such a memorable weekend.

This week, we were pleased to welcome students and trustees from Grieg Academy to the Jeremy Rogers yard.

Two of the girls are racing aboard English Rose, a Contessa 32, during this weekend’s Nationals at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club. English Rose is a familiar boat within the fleet, and it was great to meet with some of her crew and owner ahead of the racing.

Our Managing Director, Simon, showed the group around the yard, including the latest progress on our new Contessa 32 build and some of the work currently taking place across the workshop, before making sure the girls and Peter were suitably kitted out with a few Jeremy Rogers T-shirts.

With two days of fantastic racing now complete, we’re looking forward to tomorrow’s finals day on the water and wish everyone competing the best of luck. 💙

We’re so pleased to have welcomed so many new people to our pages recently, many of you joining us as we’ve shared the build of our latest Contessa 32.

But behind what you’re seeing today is more than 60 years of Jeremy Rogers history, with plenty of stories you may not yet have come across.

From the earliest Contessas and decades of boatbuilding here in Lymington, to refits, restorations, racing, and owners taking their boats across some of the most demanding stretches of water in the world, there are plenty of stories behind these yachts.

When we caught up with Gunnar Christensen earlier this year, he told us the start of the Golden Globe Race felt like it was tomorrow. Well, tomorrow really is the day!

At 14:30 tomorrow afternoon, Gunnar and Pompoen, his Hans Christian 34 better known as The Mighty Pumpkin, will leave Les Sables-d’Olonne and begin an extraordinary 30,000-nautical-mile solo, non-stop circumnavigation.

Over the past year, it’s been a privilege to play a part in Gunnar’s preparations, including fitting the Hydrovane that will help keep Pompoen on course through the many months ahead.

From everyone at Jeremy Rogers Limited, we wish Gunnar the very best of luck for the 2026 Golden Globe Race. We’ll be following every mile! 💙

Who was onboard this Contessa 32?! ⛵

💛 Clue: It’s a family affair…

The Rogers family is an iconic name within the sailing community, having built — and still family-run today — the prestigious Jeremy Rogers Boat Yard renowned for producing the stunning Contessa 32.

Here at Sanders, another family-run business with the same values of craftsmanship, quality and striving to deliver beautiful products, we’re proud to see our sails and covers adorning so many of the Contessa fleet.

So, it was a real honour to sit down and chat with Dr Ben Rogers about his fantastic winning year aboard his beautiful Contessa 32, Solan Goose, at the Taittinger Regatta and Cowes Week, along with his connection for choosing Sanders as his sailmaker.

For Ben, winning is amazing — but the icing on the cake is having his family as crew onboard.

“We are a very close family and all love our sailing and this year on Solan Goose really was a tribute to them and all they have achieved and the legacy they have left us. Jeremy and my father’s two big things were sailing and family.”

Today is a very exciting day in the yard as we break Hull No. 28, our newest Contessa 32, out of the mould.

It’s a moment not to miss, so her lovely new owner Mark travelled up from Cornwall to be here to see it.

Mark had always dreamed of owning a classic English sailing boat, but for years hadn’t realised the Contessa 32 was still being built. Then, after popping into the Jeremy Rogers yard for a chat one day, things began to fall into place.

For our team, it makes this stage of the build even more special knowing we’re helping bring a long-held dream of Mark’s to life.
