Of course. Of course we go back to the Caribbean.

Every year, when the British autumn settles in and the days shorten and the temperature begins its long slow slide towards January, David and Matthew do what they have been doing for more than thirty years.

The art and colour of Colombia are the things that arriving visitors most frequently describe as a surprise.

They expected a beautiful country. They did not expect the scale of the street art - in Bogotรก's Candelaria district, where entire building facades carry murals of international calibre; in Medellรญn's hillside barrios, where the transformation of the city's most difficult neighbourhoods has been written in paint and colour and extraordinary artistic ambition.

They did not expect the colonial architecture of Cartagena's old city to be quite so vivid - the buildings painted in deep ochre and turquoise and terracotta that glow in the Caribbean light in a way that no photograph properly conveys.

They did not expect to feel, within a day of arriving, that they were somewhere genuinely alive and joyful - a country that wears its beauty and its culture with an openness that is immediately infectious.

The food, drink and music of Colombia lift the soul. This is not a metaphor.

The food: a cuisine built on extraordinary regional diversity - the complex stews of Bogotรก's highlands, the seafood ceviche of the Caribbean coast, the bandeja paisa of Antioquia's cattle country, the arepas and empanadas and tropical fruits that appear at every meal in every region. Colombian coffee, drunk on the farm where it was grown, is a category apart.

The drink: aguardiente, Colombia's anise spirit, drunk in small glasses in Medellรญn's bars with the kind of unselfconscious enthusiasm that reminds you why drinking was invented. The rum of the coast. The craft b**r scene that Bogotรก has developed with considerable seriousness.

The music: cumbia, vallenato, salsa, champeta - emerging from doorways and courtyards in Cartagena's old city before you've decided where to eat. Live music that is simply part of life here, not a performance for tourists.

A ten-day cruise in Desolation Sound in Canada with Escape Yachting is comfortable in ways that the word "wilderness" doesn't usually suggest.

Let us paint you a picture of January in the Grenadines.

In London: dark by four o'clock. Cold. The particular grey of a British January sky that seems to press down on everything.

In the Grenadines: the trade wind blowing at a steady fifteen knots from the east. Air temperature 28 degrees. Sea temperature 27 degrees.

The Tobago Cays shimmering in the afternoon light, the hawksbill turtles surfacing and diving in the sea grass, the boat at anchor in a bay.

Sundowners on the foredeck. Dinner on board, freshly prepared from this morning's market. The stars over the Caribbean at ten o'clock in a sky that has never had a city's light pollution to compete with.

The historic towns and villages of the Dalmatian coast are among the great pleasures of a Croatia sailing holiday - and they are better explored from the sea than from any road.

Korฤula's medieval old town sits on a small peninsula visible from miles away - its walls and towers the reason Marco Polo allegedly called this island home. Approaching by yacht, dropping anchor in the bay, and taking the dinghy ashore is to arrive in exactly the way the town was built to be arrived in.

Trogir's UNESCO-listed old city - on an island connected by bridges, its Romanesque cathedral unchanged since the thirteenth century - is a thirty-minute sail from Split and an entirely different world.

Hvar town: beautiful, animated, set against a backdrop of lavender fields that scent the whole of the middle of the island in early summer.

We are sailing past all of them right now. In 2027, our guests will sail past them too - and stop, and explore, and understand why people keep coming back.

The wildlife of British Columbia: awesome in the truest sense of the word.

We use "awesome" carefully. But when a pod of orca rounds a headland and begins working the channel alongside the boat - when you can see the spray from their breathing and hear the exhalation and watch the extraordinary coordinated intelligence of animals hunting - the word earns its full, original meaning.

The humpback whales of the Inside Passage are back in numbers after decades of recovery. The grizzly bears fish the rivers at the head of the inlets where the salmon run in autumn. The bald eagles - dozens of them, hundreds of them over the course of a ten-day cruise - occupy every dead tree on every headland and are so numerous that after two days our guests only mention the ones doing something particularly compelling.

Occasionally, briefly, the spirit bear - the rare white-coated black bear found only in a small area of this coast - emerges from the treeline and makes the whole thing feel like a gift.

November through April. These are the months when the Grenadines are at their absolute finest.

The Caribbean trade wind season runs from December to June - reliable winds, dry weather, clear skies. The humidity drops. The sea is warm.
