🔵 The Tool I Use Every Single Day

If you’ve ever wondered what separates parts changing from proper diagnostics, this is it.

This is my PicoScope, and it’s one of the most powerful pieces of equipment in my workshop.

Unlike a normal diagnostic scanner that only tells you what a control module thinks is happening, the PicoScope lets me see exactly what’s happening electrically in real time.

Many faults don’t leave fault codes. Some only occur for a split second, and a scan tool simply can’t capture them. The PicoScope records live electrical signals so I can identify the exact cause of the problem before replacing any parts.

That’s why my approach has always been:

2017 Audi Q7 in today with a complete loss of function on the rear driver’s side door.

Using my Topdon diagnostic equipment, I carried out a full vehicle scan which revealed no communication with the rear driver’s door control module.

The next step was to verify the basics. Using my PicoScope, I checked power, ground, and communication lines at the module connector. All signals were present and correct. To eliminate any possibility of high resistance issues, I also load tested both the power and ground circuits to ensure they could carry sufficient current under load.

With all wiring, power supplies, grounds, and communication networks testing good, the fault was traced to a failed rear driver’s door control module.

A new module will be required to restore full operation.

This is a great example of why proper diagnostic testing is essential before replacing parts. Accurate testing saves time, money, and avoids unnecessary component replacement.

🔍 CASE STUDY: 2016 Range Rover Evoque ABS Fault

This 2016 Range Rover Evoque was brought to us by a trade customer with multiple warning lights illuminated and a non-functioning speedometer.

Many would have jumped straight to replacing parts, but that’s not how we work at FR Diagnostics.

âś… Fault codes identified a right-hand wheel speed sensor circuit fault
âś… PicoScope testing confirmed no voltage reaching the sensor
âś… OEM wiring diagrams were used to trace the circuit back to the ABS module
âś… Voltage was present at the module, pointing towards a wiring fault

After further testing, the root cause was found to be a broken wire between the ABS module and wheel speed sensor.

🔧 The repair?

A simple wiring repair.

No wheel speed sensor.
No ABS module.
No unnecessary parts.

The broken wire was repaired, fault codes cleared, road tested, and the vehicle was returned with all systems operating correctly.
