A wee bit of consideration goes a long way...

We've always said we don't expect perfection from our guests. We're all human, things get missed, and goodness knows we're probably guilty of overlooking the odd thing ourselves! Even our lovely cleaners aren't equipped with superhuman eyesight (although sometimes we do wonder!).

Over the years, we've picked up the odd cigarette end while doing changeovers. One or two here and there? No big deal. We pick them up, pop them in the bin and carry on with our day. It's hardly worth making a song and dance about.

But during yesterday's changeover? Well... 😳

While getting Sunrise ready for our next guests, we found ourselves on an unexpected cigarette-end treasure hunt around the caravan.

And the photographs? That's only SOME of what we collected from the FRONT of Sunrise!

Now, before anyone gets the wrong idea, we genuinely appreciate our guests respecting our no-smoking policy and taking their ci******es outside. Thank you! We really do appreciate it.

But we'd love it if that same consideration extended a few feet beyond the caravan door!

We're not on a deserted island (although some days that sounds quite appealing!). We've got neighbours enjoying their own holidays, families staying in the surrounding caravans, other holidaymakers walking past, children playing and dogs having a good sniff around.

None of them should have to dodge somebody else's discarded cigarette ends. And neither should the next family arriving at Sunrise, excited to start their holiday.

Our cleaners work their socks off, and we do our fair share too, making sure everything is clean, comfortable and welcoming for each new arrival. We're more than happy to go the extra mile, but we'd rather not spend it bent double in the grass hunting for cigarette ends!

We're not asking for perfection. Accidents happen, things get missed, and we'll never make a mountain out of a molehill.

But there's a bit of a difference between missing the odd cigarette end and leaving enough behind to keep us occupied for half a changeover!

So here's our very simple, very reasonable little request...

If you're having a cigarette outside, enjoy it! Just make sure it's properly extinguished and disposed of responsibly afterwards.

A little thought for your neighbours, the people passing by, our cleaners and the next family arriving really does make all the difference.

And if you do drop a cigarette end...

Just pick it up. Because, well... why wouldn't you? 🤷‍♂️

With love (and considerably fewer cigarette ends),

The Moonstar Team 🌙

🚨 STOP THE PRESSES. CANCEL HIBERNATION. WE HAVE NEWS. 🚨

Seton Sands is opening from 1st February next year! 🥳

Yep. FEBRUARY. IN SCOTLAND.
Someone at Haven has clearly looked outside, seen the sideways rain, felt the 47mph wind hit them directly in the face and thought…
“You know what this needs? Caravans.” 😂
And frankly, we're here for it.

It means less waiting around after New Year for the park to come back to life, February half-term breaks, wintery walks along the coast, trips into Edinburgh on the 26 and cosy nights back at the caravan afterwards.

Plus, let's face it — Scottish weather in February isn't that different from Scottish weather in July.
July just stays light long enough for you to see the rain. 🤷‍♂️😂

So, serious question…
Would you do a caravan break in February?

❤️ Absolutely — get the heating on and I'm there.
😂 Maybe… if you promise me hot chocolate.
🥶 Not a chance. Contact me when Scotland defrosts.

We're genuinely curious where everyone stands on this one!

1st February though… that's made our night. 🌙

Going away with kids is great.

Actually going away with kids is a completely different matter. 😂

You said you were leaving at 10.

9:45 — feeling pretty smug. Bags packed. Car mostly loaded. You've even remembered the chargers.

10:00 — someone can't find a shoe. Not their shoes. One shoe. The other one's right there, which somehow makes this worse.

10:12 — everyone's finally ready.

“Wait, I need the toilet.”

Of course you do.

10:20 — car packed. Doors locked. Everyone in. Then somebody appears with another bag containing seventeen things they apparently absolutely need for a few days away.

Tetris: Family Holiday Edition begins again.

10:37 — WE'RE OFF! 🎉

Eleven minutes later...

“Are we nearly there?”

No. No we are not. 😂

Eventually though, you pull into Seton Sands and find your Moonstar caravan. Main door open. Patio doors open.

The kids disappear to claim bedrooms, someone's found the toys before you've even finished unloading, and the dog has discovered it can run in through the patio doors, through the caravan, out the main door, round the enclosed decking and straight back in through the patio doors again.

And again. And again. 😂

Meanwhile you're unloading enough luggage to suggest you've emigrated rather than come away for a few days.

Which is when you realise... the beds are already made. Towels are here. Wi-Fi's on. Netflix is ready. Toys are already waiting and quite a lot of those “we might need this” bags could probably have stayed at home.

And that's really what we want Moonstar to feel like.

Not somewhere you've just moved the whole family to for a few days and still have a hundred things to sort out. Somewhere you can dump the bags, let the kids explore, let the dog do another lap and finally think...

Right. We made it.

We'll try to take care of the little things. You just enjoy having everyone together.

So relax... cause why wouldn't you? 🌙⭐

Nobody has ever booked a holiday because the caravan has a hoover. 😂

But give it a day.
Crisps. Coco Pops. Pasta. Crumbs. Hair. Sand that's somehow followed you all the way back from the beach...

Suddenly, you're quite glad it's there.

And that's kind of the thinking behind a lot of the stuff we put in our caravans. We don't just want you to turn up and think “yup, there's a bed and a kettle, that'll do.” 😂 We want them to have the things you'll actually use while you're there.

That's why they all have twin-basket air fryers. Caravan ovens are notoriously slow and nobody wants to spend half their holiday waiting for dinner to cook.

It's why there's a proper fridge-freezer too. And the freezer bit is important! Not a wee ice box at the top that can just about squeeze in a box of fish fingers — an actual freezer you can use.

There's even a big stock pot, because sometimes you're making a pot of soup for everyone... and sometimes you're building a dinosaur mash mountain!
We're not here to judge. 😂

Then there's all the other stuff you don't really think about until you need it.

Bedding and towels are already there. Soap, shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the bathroom. Washing-up liquid and cleaning stuff. Cling film, tin foil and greaseproof paper in the kitchen. Tea, coffee, sugar and sweetener. Hairdryer. Toys for inside and outside, board games and DVDs, more than one Smart TV in every caravan, Netflix, unlimited WiFi and a Bluetooth speaker.

Some of it you'll use every day. Some of it you might never touch.

But when you've forgotten the shampoo, the kids have brought half of Seton Sands back in their shoes, you need to wrap up leftovers, the weather turns or you just want to chuck dinner in the air fryer and stick Netflix on...

it's there.

Are we going to claim we've thought of absolutely everything? Absolutely not. We've got six kids. We know better than to make claims that stupid. 😂

But if we spot something that would make staying in our caravans a wee bit easier, more comfortable or just less hassle...

Well... why wouldn't we? 🌙⭐

🍂 At what point do you admit it’s too cold to sit on the decking?

Because apparently “when there are still two rays of sunshine left” is NOT the answer. 😂

It’s that time of year at Seton Sands. You’ve got a blanket wrapped around you, something hot in your favourite mug, a good book and you’re absolutely, definitely not cold. Your toes might disagree, but nobody asked them.

And yes, the trees are turning all those gorgeous autumn colours, the sun’s getting lower and the park looks bloody lovely... which really isn’t helping your argument for going inside.

“Just another ten minutes.”
Ten minutes later: “There’s still a bit of sun over there.”

Eventually you’ll give in, head inside, stick the heating on and wonder why you waited so long.

But until then?
There are still two rays of sunshine left.

Seems rude to waste them. ☀️😂

A wee non-caravan update from us...

I wasn't really sure whether to post anything about this on the Moonstar page, because it's obviously quite personal, but I also know there are people waiting on replies from us and people we've got bookings with, so it felt a bit strange just carrying on posting as normal without saying anything.

Jojo was taken into hospital on Tuesday after a flare up of her FND left her effectively paralysed from the hips down. She's since been transferred through to the Department of Clinical Neurosciences in Edinburgh where they're doing more investigations.

Thankfully they believe the paralysis is temporary, but as you can imagine things are a bit all over the place for us just now. I'm spending as much time as I can at the hospital with her while also trying to keep six kids, a small zoo and everything else vaguely pointing in the right direction... cause why wouldn't I? 😂

Moonstar isn't going anywhere and everything is still running as normal, but replies might take me a little longer than usual at the moment.

So yeah... that's where we're at just now.

SUMMER IS OVERRATED.

There. I said it. 👀

Don't get me wrong, I like summer. Those three days we had this year were lovely 😂

But everyone fights over the same six weeks, everywhere is rammed, prices go mental and you spend half your holiday applying sun cream to children who seem to regard standing still as a personal attack.

Autumn though?

Seton Sands quietens down a bit. The beach is still there. Edinburgh hasn't disappeared. The kids can still run themselves daft outside and the dog can still come home absolutely filthy despite you having no idea what it actually rolled in.

Then back to the caravan.

Heating on. Comfies on. Something questionable in the air fryer... or give up entirely and order a takeaway. I'm not here to judge your holiday choices 😂

And yes... before anyone points it out, our Dogue de Bordeaux is literally called Autumn, so there may be a tiny amount of bias involved here. Apparently she's now also Moonstar's Chief Holiday Inspector and has started giving marketing advice. 🙄😂

Completely coincidentally, of course, we happen to have some autumn availability too 👀

Moonstar, Stargaze & Sunrise are all 3 bedroom, sleep up to 8 and pet friendly. We include bedding, towels, toiletries, unlimited WiFi, toys, games and all the other wee bits that hopefully mean you can spend less time packing and more time actually looking forward to going away.

So I'm putting it to the jury...

☀️ Summer holiday
or
🍂 Autumn getaway?

And if Autumn has successfully talked you into the second one, send us the dates you're looking for and I'll have a rummage through the diary.

Three caravans. Same park. Same owners. But honestly? They couldn’t be more different 😂

When we ended up with three caravans at Seton Sands, we never really wanted three versions of the same thing. And somehow they’ve each ended up with their own wee personality.

🌙 Moonstar is the family one.
The original and where all of this started. It’s the only one with ramp access onto the enclosed decking, it’s got more toys for the wee ones and, out of the three, it’s probably the one most geared towards families with younger kids. The kind of van where nobody’s panicking about the kids actually being kids.

✨ Stargaze has the classic charm.
Cosy when the Scottish weather inevitably does its thing, elegant without being stuffy, then when we do actually get some sunshine you can open the patio doors straight onto the wraparound decking. And yep, Stargaze gets a partial sea view too.

☀️ Sunrise is our modern one.
Bright, spacious and that wee bit more luxurious, but without being pretentious about it. Big wraparound decking, sliding patio doors, partial sea view… lovely, but still somewhere you can actually relax without being terrified to touch anything 😂

And that's probably why I can never really answer when someone asks which one is “best”.

They’re just different.

So now I’m throwing that problem over to you 😂

Which one sounds most like YOUR kind of holiday?

🌙 Moonstar — family fun
✨ Stargaze — classic & cosy
☀️ Sunrise — modern luxury

And if you’ve stayed in one already, I fully expect completely unbiased answers… 👀

So… who the hell actually IS Moonstar? 👀

We've been posting caravans, reviews, daft detective pictures and generally popping up on your Facebook for a while now, but we've never really introduced ourselves properly.

We're Scott & Jojo. Husband and wife, parents to six kids, owners of what is rapidly becoming a small zoo… and somehow, somewhere along the way, owners of three caravans at Seton Sands. And no, that definitely wasn't the plan 😂

Before any of this, we were actually the ones booking the holidays. We'd holidayed at Seton Sands about six times and it had pretty much become our go-to place when we wanted to get away. Then we got a fairly rare opportunity to buy an older caravan privately — an Atlas Moonstone.

And that's actually where the name Moonstar came from. Moonstone became Moonstar, and apparently we accidentally named a business before we even knew we were starting one 😂

Owning our own caravan somewhere we already loved sounded brilliant. What we perhaps hadn't fully appreciated was that buying a caravan and keeping a caravan are two very different things. Between site fees and all the other bills that come with it, you're easily looking at around £10,000+ a year just to keep one there.

So renting Moonstar out wasn't some grand plan to build a caravan empire. We pretty much had to rent it out to make owning it work. That was supposed to be it.

Obviously it wasn't. 😂

Sunrise came next. Another older caravan came up for private sale and, if we're being truthful, we were buying it as much for the plot and the wraparound decking as we were for the caravan itself. We loved where it was, saw what it could be, bought it and gradually upgraded it into the Sunrise you see today.

Then another opportunity appeared. Just four spaces away from Sunrise was another older caravan being sold privately. With six kids and a big family, having two caravans that close together meant we could go away with family, have everyone nearby, but still have our own space. So with our brother, we bought that one too 😂

That became Stargaze and, much like Sunrise, we've gradually upgraded it and made it our own.

Which is how, without ever really setting out to build a caravan rental business, we somehow ended up with Moonstar, Sunrise and Stargaze.

Looking back, there was never really a master plan. It was more a series of opportunities followed by us saying “well… why wouldn't we?”

Which, thinking about it, explains an awful lot about Moonstar. 😂

Because I think the fact we started out as guests probably shapes how we do things more than anything else. We'd spent years staying in caravans before we ever owned one, so when we're deciding whether to add something, change something or spend yet more money on something, we still tend to look at it from that side — would we appreciate this if we were staying here?

That's why there's bedding and towels, toiletries, decent WiFi, air fryers, a hoover, toys, Bluetooth speakers and all the other little bits we've added along the way. Not because a caravan has to have them, but because they make somebody's stay that wee bit easier.

And that's become our unofficial Moonstar rule: if something would make a guest's stay better, and we can reasonably do it… why wouldn't we?

We're not Haven. We're not a big holiday company. It's just us, our family, three caravans and a frankly ridiculous amount of time spent talking about mattresses, WiFi, decking furniture and what else we could possibly fit into a caravan.

So if you've stayed with us before — hello again! If you've only recently found us — hello properly. And if you've been silently following the page wondering who these lunatics are… now you know 😂

Scott & Jojo x

PS. Since we're doing introductions properly — how did you find us? Have you stayed with us, been recommended by someone, spotted us in a Facebook group… or has Zuckerberg just decided you look like you need a holiday? 😂
