Garages are being reminded of the risks involved in fitting customer-supplied parts, with the Independent Garage Association warning that workshops remain responsible for ensuring any vehicle they work on is safe to drive.

🚨 FULL DAY BOOKED.

PARTS ORDERED.

CUSTOMER DOESN’T TURN UP.

Who should carry the loss?

The customer books a major repair.

The garage reserves an entire ramp.

Parts are ordered specifically for the vehicle.

Another customer is told:

“Sorry, we’re fully booked that day.”

The morning arrives.

No vehicle.

No message.

No telephone call.

Just an empty ramp looking more vacant than the promises made when the appointment was booked. 😂

The garage calls.

No answer.

It sends a message.

Nothing.

At 2pm, the customer replies:

“Sorry, completely forgot. Can I rebook for next week?”

Meanwhile, the garage has lost several hours of chargeable workshop time.

The technician still needs paying.

The rent hasn’t taken the day off.

And the customer who could have filled that booking has gone elsewhere.

Restaurants take deposits.

Hotels take deposits.

Tattooists take deposits.

Even some hairdressers charge when people fail to attend.

Yet many customers become furious when a garage suggests doing the same.

Why?

A) Garages should take a non-refundable booking deposit.

B- The first missed appointment should be forgiven.

C) Repeat offenders should pay the full lost labour.

D- Customers should only pay when physical work has been completed.

E) Garages should overbook appointments like airlines and let the vehicles fight for the ramp. 😂

Naturally, genuine emergencies happen.

Children become ill.

Work changes.

Cars even break down on the way to the garage, which is impressive timing.

But communication takes seconds.

👇 Garages: how much do no-shows cost your business?

Do you take deposits?

Have customers objected?

Owners: would you happily pay a booking deposit if it came off the final invoice?

And what notice period feels fair for cancelling without charge?

Let’s hear both sides. 💣
