Volvo will skip Level 3 automated driving to go straight to Level 4 using lidar from Luminar. Volvo's aim to allow drivers to completely leave vehicle command to the system in specific parts of a highway. This comes as Lv.3 faces regulatory and consumer adoption challenges.

Volvo says that it will use lidar to make "a gradual introduction" of autonomy. The Volvo XC40 EV and Polestar 3 could allow hands-off highway driving.

Hi friends! I hope everyone is safe and healthy in these troubled times.

COVID-19 shows a clear sign that we need to be prepared for a new era of volatility as a result of environmental damage and increased globalization.

The pandemic has disrupted our lives and has sent the economy to turmoil. The automotive sector has been hit hard putting also millions of jobs at risk. In Europe, 1.1 out of the 2.6 million direct manufacturing jobs in the EU auto sector have been affected by the production shutdown as of April 2020.

Here is a brief summary of its impact on car sales in Q1 2020 in the world's biggest car markets. China has been obviously affected the most but it's also on its way to rebound while Europe and the USA and now feeling the disruption deeper.

As economic activity and social distancing will be gradually removed we need to reshape the "new normal", either in terms of "smarter working" and its effect on transportation, as well as in our approach towards emissions.
