BMW R12 NineT, 2024.

It may not be a top of the range superbike but it does have fully adjustable suspension, so I’m certain there are improvements available.
The same rules apply: make it safer, easier to ride and more fun.
It responded well as did the owner with a text message after his ride home: “Bike felt great”🙏👌🏻

BMW S1000rr M edition, 2026.

It may be a new and top of the range superbike but to get most out of it, it will need a bespoke custom set up tailored to the rider.

Modern superbikes are so often a handful to ride, impractical and uncomfortable…..but they’re definitely improving. This BMW S1000rr M edition felt quite user friendly and easy to ride.
It was going to be interesting to see if we could make it even easier and more fun to ride.
The answer was yes!

Ducati Panigale 1199s. 2013. Electronic Suspension.

Stunning bike, but did not have the handling to match. The owner had no confidence and feel.
Thank you for making the long journey to see me!
Big challenge ahead. I’m often cautious with the electronic suspension as it can behave quite strangely.
This one however responded beautifully once the geometry was optimised and the electronics fine tuned.The whole bike was sitting too low which compromised, steering, agility, riding position and stability.
Just heard from the owner: “The bike, it’s totally awesome. Felt very different on the way back. A lot more comfortable and loads more under control”👌🏻🙏

Yamaha XSR900, 2025.

The owner wanted more comfort from the ride.
No problem! The road test confirmed the poor ride quality and also revealed some instability on both ends. Forks diving excessively fast and the rear unloading too quickly.
Also felt perched on the bike rather than in it.
After several test runs and tweaks all of the above were improved.
Most importantly the owner was happy and reported “a less angry bike and no more jitters”🙏👌🏻

Yamaha Tenere 700 Extreme, 2024.

The owner was experiencing a high speed wobble and wanted me to diagnose the cause.

As usual, with suspension it’s never one culprit.
I also found a few other areas where the handling could be improved.

The wobble, handlebar oscillating was soon ironed out once the damping was dialled in optimally and the geometry set.
Now the bike felt much more agile but composed. The owner felt “connected to the road”
He was also happy with my suspension ramblings and left “feeling much more confident with the demystifying of the set up process”
I also supplied settings for his off-road excursions.

Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx.

Always a pleasure working on these. It’s a great all round bike and a tailored suspension set up just improves it further in many areas.
The owner was very happy and reported “whole new sensation”
“The whole bike moving in harmony together”
“It just wants to corner now” “very predictable”

Yamaha MT09 SP.

Negative stuff first. The Ohlins badged shock and forks are not the same quality as the kit you get over the counter from Ohlins. There was just too little range of rebound damping on both ends. I managed to calm down the instability/pogoing quite a bit but still needed a touch more.
It’s not a one off either as it was the same situation with the last few MT09’s I set up.

The end results were still very rewarding and it’s a cracking bike.
Handling improvements were made in many areas:
Progressive braking✅
Improved riding position ✅
Improved ride quality✅
Much more planted on front and rear✅
Precise, neutral and light steering✅
Improved grip/feel✅
Confidence inspiring✅
Grin factor✅
Safety✅
Happy owner✅

Triumph Tiger Sport 800.

The owner felt (correctly) the forks were diving too fast under braking and the bike was “unbalanced”.

A quick check revealed zero damping on the front which proved to be the culprit.
I found other issues too. Steering was heavy and riding position cramped.
Once it was dialled in optimally, the results were very rewarding. So much so, the owner returned personally later on to acknowledge how happy he was🙏

Ducati deBolex dB25.

Serious high end custom build to set up today. deBolex make these to order and prices start from £38,000.
They start with a Ducati 1200 Monster and upgrade everything.

The customer has visited me before and understood reasonably how a motorcycle should feel/handle and was very unhappy with this and knew the suspension was lacking.

As usual the customers are always right.
After some checks and measurements I had an idea what may be needed. But unusually my road test said the opposite. This is why you have to ride the motorcycle to assess it.
It took a while to dial in but each adjustment reaped rewards and I was looking forward to hearing from the customer after a thorough ride.
Received a very nice message later saying: “the transformation was like night and day”👌🏻🙏

Triumph Street Triple 765RS, 2023.

The owner was very happy last time he visited and was now back with a new steed.

One of my favourites. Easy to work on, responds well to adjustments and it’s a fun bike to ride.
The 765R’s I see all have similar traits in the handling department.
This is another good example.
It certainly responded well to a tailored suspension set up.
Handling improvements were made in many areas:

Excessive fork dive eliminated ✅
