Back to the old school, The VW BEETLE One of the most charming features? Its convertible top was hand-fitted by Karmann, not Volkswagen.
• The convertible version of the Beetle was built by Karmann, a German coachbuilder. Each one was meticulously hand-assembled, making it more refined than the standard hardtop Beetle.
• Because of this, convertibles had additional structural reinforcements — thicker steel in the body, extra bracing under the chassis, and stronger door pillars — to compensate for the loss of a fixed roof.
