Seahorse Sailing Club

Seahorse Sailing Club Dinghy and offshore sailing Seahorse Sailing Club is a friendly and welcoming sailing club run by and for its members.

Based at the Brent Reservoir, near Wembley, London, we have one of the best stretches of water to sail in the London area and we are surrounded by green park land with a rare wildlife population that led the area to be given the status of nature reserve. Activities include:
- dinghy training on Thursday evenings, when we welcome new members to try dinghy sailing under the safe supervision of our

experienced and RYA certified instructors;
- dinghy racing on Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons, where the most competitive trainees are encouraged to crew for experienced helms;
- dinghy racing for young sailors on Sundays;
- official GP14 racing competitions (part of the "Travellers Series");
- offshore sailing;
- various social events for members and friends. The Welsh Harp houses one of the biggest UK fleet of the class GP14, but our fleet also include Lasers, Fireflies, Toppers and Optimists to suit a wide spectrum of sailing lovers. Enthusiastic new sailors will quickly be assimilated into club life and enjoy making a full contribution to club activities, including developing the next generation of new members.

Dear All,

Winter sailing on the sea. Forget the floods in Noah’s Arc (Angel)!

Welsh Harp SC first Yachting trip of 2014. Weekend 28 February - 2 March

Please let me know if you are interested in a sailing weekend in the Solent area on Arc Angel, a 12m sailing yacht, out of Hamble Point Marina near Southampton.

This trip would suit all levels of experience as we get the club yachting season under way.

Friday evening 28 February to Sunday evening 2 March.

Crew of six. £60 per person for the boat, plus expenses of travel to Hamble, sharing food, drink, marina and diesel costs.

I look forward to hearing from you. Further and full details to those who are keen to come.

The average Facebook user has around 150 friends. If just 10 people were to "share" a photograph you post, then that one photograph could go out to 1,500 people - most of who would probably never have heard about WHSC, the Welsh Harp or how inexpensive dinghy sailing really is!

So the key to having a successful Facebook site is twofold:
To make posting club information on it a priority.
To then actively encourage members to "share" those posts as often as possible.

Dear Sailors

The winter series have started but the wind is letting us down somewhat. Last week the first race had a postponed start and the second one was cancelled (I will send a race report written by Penny separately). This week the prediction did not look more promising. However, there was enough wind to have two nice races. We had some nice winter sunshine despite some nasty rain clouds trying to get over the harp. In total there were 13 GPs and 7 Lasers out yesterday. It stayed dry and it was not too cold. The wind direction may have forced the OOD to use difficult starting line. The courses were: 1-2-5-6-4 and 1-2-3-4. The wind shifted direction during the afternoon. So what paid off in the first race was not such a good idea during the second race which makes sailing at the Harp interesting!

We have two races on Saturday. The first race is the All Series (every fleet can participate and win) and second race is for the Bronze Series (only Bronze helms will qualify / be scored). For the Lasers sailors, both races are equal.

The All race was won by:
Gold: Richard/Caro
Silver: Jim/Chris (and overall winner)
Bronze: Tinu/Chris
Laser: Alain

The Second race was won by:
Bronze: Yvon/Roger
Laser: Richard B

All well done and let’s hope we have a bigger fleet on the Harp next week.

I forgot to hand out my camera so, I have no picture to share right now ;-(
