In 2023, the last full year, there were 314,684 electric cars sold, compared to 267,203 in 2022; a growth of 18%. Now in 2024 17.2%+ of new car registrations are electric.
Data from National Highways shows that breakdowns on England’s motorway and A-road network rose to 274,596 in 2023, up from 243,578 in 2022 and a 20 per cent increase from five years ago (229,576).
As years go on, vehicles are supposedly becoming, stronger, safer, more efficient and better for the environment.
EV vehicles are on average 300KG-400KG heavier than petrol cars, which means transportation options for these vehicles are becoming scarce, due to it being overweight on 3.5T tow trucks.
We believe it is about time the government increase entitlement for normal licences from 3,500KG to 4500KG. If it is a matter of safety, it should be a mandatory requirement for all technicians to do Roadside & Recovery training and this will increase standards in the industry.
