The European Commission has unveiled bold measures to accelerate the automotive sector’s transition to clean mobility while safeguarding its global competitiveness. Europe’s automotive industry, an economic powerhouse employing millions and driving innovation, faces rapid technological change and mounting international competition. 🌍

Key initiatives include: ⚡

Tougher CO2 standards for cars, vans, and heavy vehicles to meet 2035 targets. 🌱

Greener corporate fleets to boost zero- and low-emission vehicle adoption. ⚡

€1.8 billion Battery Booster Strategy to create a fully EU-made battery value chain. 🔋

Automotive omnibus to cut red tape, reduce costs, and introduce affordable small cars. 🛠️

Enhanced car labelling to empower consumers with clear emissions data for smarter purchases. 🏷️

These measures build on the ongoing Automotive Action Plan and the Strategic Dialogue launched in January 2025, which unites industry, social partners, EU countries, regions, and civil society. The dialogue has already hosted three meetings, shaping strategies to tackle challenges and seize opportunities in the sector’s green transformation. 🤝

AUTOMOTIVE LEADERS CALL FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION TO PROTECT EUROPE’S INDUSTRY AMID CHINA’S SURGING SALES! ⚠️

Europe’s automotive supply base is under acute pressure, and industry leaders are sounding the alarm. 🚨

Gestamp CEO Francisco Riberas is calling for short-term protective measures to shield European suppliers from rapidly intensifying Chinese competition across both vehicles and components. 🚗

Chinese OEMs such as BYD and CHERY have doubled their European market share in a year, reaching 6.8% in October, while low-cost components flood the supply chain as OEMs chase cost reductions. 📈

The result? Shrinking production, eroding margins, and accelerating job losses. European vehicle output is now four million units below 2019 levels, a structural drop Riberas believes will not return. 📉

Gestamp alone saw Western European revenues fall 7.4% and profits drop 21% in the last quarter as production slowed, particularly in Germany. 💸

Riberas argues selective tariffs applied consistently across steel, vehicles, and components, could offer breathing room. Not as a long-term fix, but as a temporary buffer while Europe restructures and rebuilds competitiveness. 🛡️

Global Leading Tier 1 Supplier, Valeo's CEO Christophe Périllat echoes the warning, calling for “equal conditions” and suggesting Europe take cues from the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act by enforcing local value creation. 💡
