🚗🎯 ADI PART 3 TEST – STOP TRYING TO IMPRESS THE EXAMINER!

One of the biggest mistakes trainee driving instructors make when preparing for their Part 3 test is focusing too much on what the examiner wants to see. 👀

❌ "What questions should I ask to impress the examiner?"

❌ "What does the examiner want me to demonstrate?"

Instead, change your mindset and ask yourself one simple question:

✅ "What does my pupil need from me right now?"

Your questions, instructions and feedback should be based on your pupil's ability, understanding and development, not on trying to tick boxes for the examiner.

💡 The examiner is assessing your ability to teach, so focus on delivering a lesson that genuinely meets your pupil's needs.

When you put the pupil first, the skills the examiner is looking for should become a natural part of your teaching.

🎯 Stop performing for the examiner. Start teaching for the pupil!

🚗💡 Just Because Someone Flashes You, Doesn't Mean It's Safe to Go!

Imagine you're waiting to turn left and another driver flashes their headlights to let you out. You'd assume it's safe to go, right? 🤔

Well, not necessarily! ⚠️

What if there's a cyclist approaching on the inside? 🚴 Or a motorbike coming around the outside? 🏍️

A flash of headlights is NOT a guarantee that the road is clear!

Your driving instructor isn't just teaching you how to drive. They're teaching you how to think, anticipate danger and make safe decisions independently.

👀 Always carry out your own observations. Never rely on another driver's signal to make your decision for you.

🚗 “You're being TOO careful!” 😳

Sorry… WHAT?! 😭 I thought being careful was the whole point of learning to drive?!

Apparently, there's such a thing as being too cautious behind the wheel! 👀

My instructor explained that safe driving isn't about hesitating at every opportunity. It's about reading the road, assessing the risks and making confident decisions.

Because sometimes, being overly cautious can actually confuse other road users! 🤯

💡 The lesson? Be safe, not hesitant. Be cautious, not indecisive.

👇 Be honest… has your driving instructor ever told you that you're being TOO careful?

⏱️ Want to get a better feel for how quickly 45 minutes goes on your Part 3 test?

If your normal driving lessons are two hours long, try splitting them into two 45-minute mini lessons.

Treat each section as its own lesson — introduce the session, establish what you’ll be working on, manage the lesson and then finish with a proper summary or debrief.

Then reset and do it again for the second 45 minutes.

It’s a simple way to practise working within the same timeframe as your Part 3 test and learn just how quickly those 45 minutes can disappear!

The more familiar you become with planning and delivering within that timeframe, the more natural it should start to feel. 🚗📋

Ever noticed that the more you focus on NOT hitting parked cars… the closer you seem to get to them? 😅🚗

It’s an easy habit to fall into when you’re learning to drive. You become so focused on the parked cars beside you that your steering naturally starts taking you towards them.

One simple tip that can make a huge difference: look where you want the car to go.

Keep your vision further ahead and focus on the safe space you want to drive through, rather than staring at the vehicles you’re trying to avoid.

Your eyes help guide your steering — so look ahead, find your safe path and let the car follow. 👀🛣️

Apparently… you CAN be too nice when you’re driving. 😳🚗

Courtesy is important — but being predictable is even more important.

Learning that meeting traffic isn’t about automatically stopping and letting everyone through. It’s about reading the road ahead, identifying where the obstruction is, assessing the available space and then making a safe, confident decision.

And there’s another big change happening…

Instead of her instructor constantly saying “go”, “wait” or “stop here”, The pupil is having to make more of those decisions herself. 😬

Slightly terrifying? Maybe.

But that’s exactly the point. Eventually, there won’t be an instructor sitting beside her.

Another lesson down. Another step closer to becoming an independent driver. 🙌

🔮 My driving instructor has taught me how to predict the future… no, literally! 😂🚗

Okay, maybe not quite — but I’m learning that a huge part of becoming a better driver is anticipating what could happen BEFORE it happens.

👀 What might that pedestrian do?
🚗 Is that car about to pull out?
🚦 Could the lights change?
⚠️ Is something developing ahead that I need to react to?

Instead of just reacting at the last second, I’m learning to look further ahead, read the situation and think about what other road users might do next.

It’s helping me spot things earlier, plan ahead and be much more decisive behind the wheel.

Apparently, good driving isn’t just about what’s happening NOW — it’s about recognising what could happen NEXT. 🔮

Another lesson, another skill unlocked! 🚗💨
