Every bearing shell gets measured against the figures before anything goes back in. It is slower than guessing and it is the reason the work lasts. Plenty of places will fit a part and hope. We would rather take the time and know.

This came out of a Discovery 4 whose owner had been hearing a rattle for three months!
By the time it came to us the chain had stretched and the guide had worn through. What would have been a manageable job in June became a much bigger one in September. That is the whole story of engine work, and it is why we would rather see it early.

The owner heard something, decided it could wait, and kept going. Two weeks later the whole engine needed rebuilding. What would have been a small repair became one of the biggest bills you can get!
