I've heard too many times now when inheriting a pupil, of abuse they've received, whether verbally, intimidating talk or physical.
IT IS NOT OK!
Your instructor should keep to their side of the car, there should be no physical contact. I would only reach across to take control of the steering wheel, only to prevent a crash, I would then always explain my actions and check the pupil was ok with what happened.
You should never accept ANY verbal abuse, sexual or any kind.
I have been told by those pupils how they were to scared to speak up, they had been scared into thinking the instructor had the power to decide if they would pass or fail their driving test.
Let me tell you now, NO driving instructor has power over the Examiner of your driving test.
Don't be scared to report it to the DVSA or the police.

Two women who say they were sexually assaulted by their driving instructor have called for tighter regulation of the profession. They warn that learner drivers, particularly teenagers, are vulnerable to abuse while taking lessons. These latest comments come despite previous highlighting of safeguard...

πŸ“’ The rules for booking a practical car driving test are changing.

From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to change a driving test booking up to 2 times.

A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping an appointment with another learner

If you’re an ADI, please make sure your pupils only book their test when they’re ready as swapping between pupils will count towards this limit. You can set times when you're available to take your pupils to their driving tests. This stops your pupils from booking tests at times that do not work for you.

πŸ‘‰ When this comes into force, everyone with a driving test booked will have 2 changes available, regardless of how many changes they may have already made.

This change is part of the outcome of our consultation to improve the way driving tests are booked.

These new seatbelt covers are being offered by Devon and Cornwall Police.

They are being offered free, to those with additional needs, to help make communication easier after incidents including road traffic collisions.

The seatbelt covers are a new initiative and give help to people with a speech, language or communication need which may create a barrier.

The seatbelt cover can be personalised and wrapped around an adult seatbelt using Velcro. A card inside the seatbelt cover allows the user to add their name, age, address, medical conditions or other information about how they like to be communicated with.

In the event of an emergency a first responder (someone from the blue light services) or a member of the public can look inside the seatbelt cover to get more information and understand how they can respond appropriately to a person’s individual needs to help make them feel safe again.

There is also an option for the seat belt wearer to use the information card to point to a picture showing which part of the body they have injured.

πŸš‘ Would you know what to do in an emergency? πŸš‘

Every minute counts when someone has a cardiac arrest. With effective CPR and defibrillator use, survival rates can jump from less than 10% to as high as 70%.

That’s why from early 2026, CPR and defibrillator questions will form part of the car and motorcycle theory test. This change is about giving new drivers and riders the knowledge that could one day save a life.

Don’t wait until your test - start learning now! Explore the GOV.UK page for free resources and training links:

Watch out wild swimmers, beach goers and anyone who loves messing around in the water!
The effects of Hurricane Erin will be felt in the UK from monday in the form of huge swell & waves. These waves won't only be big, they will be extremely powerful with a long interval between waves.

Unless you are an experienced surfer, surf kayaker or used to very powerful seas, we highly recommend visiting a lifeguarded beach and swimming between the red & yellow flags unless you can find very sheltered & flat calm water without waves.

With any waves comes rip currents, powerful currents that drag you out to sea past the breaking waves.. a place you definitely dont want to be in this swell!

Our RNLI beach lifeguards will mark known rip currents with banners & red flags and choose safe swim spots for red & yellow flags. Expect beaches with bigger surf to be red flagged as too dangerous to swim & body board.

We are passionate about safety but dont usually take this very cautious approach. But these waves are different. Their strength is enormous. Dont get caught out. Maybe this week is the time for finding a vantage spot somewhere high and watching the more experienced surfers have their fun?
