If you light it, it is yours 🔥

Our fire and rescue services, retained firefighters, volunteers, farmers and all those who help in times of need are doing serious, difficult work protecting homes, land, wildlife and communities. We are enormously grateful to them. Their courage is not permission for carelessness.

If you light a fire or barbecue, you take full responsibility for it. Check that fires are permitted, use the firepit or barbecue properly, keep it small, stay with it and always be ready with the right gear to extinguish it.

We do not allow disposable BBQs.

Any barbecue must stand securely on its legs with a heat mat or blocks beneath it, well clear of dry grass, tents and anything else that could catch. Never barbecue without a heat protective layer on the ground and suitable distances all round.

Never light fires of any kind in our woodlands.

Fire pits and ash MUST BE COLD before disposing of properly in the ash bins. Under no circumstances should you use the hedgerows or general waste bins to dispose of ash.

If we see any irresponsible behaviour, we will have to impose a blanket ban. Think about your choices. Do not leave the consequences of your choices to our team, our neighbours or the people who would have to come and fight the fire.

If you are concerned about fire or have seen smoke on the land please talk to reception immediately.

Use your head. If you light it, it is yours, from the first flame to the last cold ember.

Flying-ants at Fforest Fields 🐜🪽

You may have noticed rather a lot of flying ants appearing around the site this afternoon. Please don’t worry, it’s a completely natural, harmless event sometimes called Flying Ant Day.

Warm, still and humid weather encourages winged queens and males to leave their nests at the same time for their annual mating flight. It can look quite dramatic, but usually lasts only a few hours and should be over by later this evening.

They don’t sting and aren’t harmful. They’re also an important feast for swifts, swallows and other birds, while the ants themselves help aerate the soil.

If you see a swarm, it may be worth keeping your tent, caravan and campervan doors zipped or closed.

Please don’t spray them. The best thing is simply to let this brief wildlife spectacle pass and admire the show. 🐜🪽

Kite flying in Tiger Country 🐅 There was a special atmosphere on the site this evening, a feeling of settling into the summer holidays. It was also quite nice to put a jumper on for a change!

Thank you all for choosing this place and making the most of it, and a special thanks to our team for putting in so much. What a fab season we've had so far! 🥰☺️

As the sun goes down on another Royal Welsh, what a week we've had! Thank you all for coming and making Fforest Fields so special this week, we send you home probably exhausted, perhaps a little burnt but hopefully looking to book already for 2027. We shall have those dates on the website very soon.

Now we settle into summer holidays!
