In Memory of John

It is with great sadness that we share the news that John passed away peacefully on 24 June, with his children, Susan and Philip, at his bedside.

John was comfortable and passed away with the customary dignity and grace that defined the way he lived his life. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember his warmth, generosity, good humour and the genuine interest he took in others.

Hendwr was his life’s work, and its customers were very dear to him. He valued the friendships he formed over many years and took enormous pride and pleasure in welcoming so many people and helping to create happy memories for them.

John always enjoyed helping others. During his time as a very active Chairman of the all Wales Flood Defence and Land Drainage Committee, he drew upon a lifetime of farming experience at Hendwr to advise government and support farmers and property owners in protecting their land, homes and businesses from flooding for which he was awarded his OBE.

His quick mind, practical judgement and persuasive diplomacy were also recognised through his appointment to sit on the Lands Tribunal panel. It was a role he found deeply fulfilling, particularly because it gave him another opportunity to use his experience to help others and resolve difficult matters fairly.

This evening, we hope you might raise a glass in John’s memory and take a moment to remember the happiness, friendship and kindness he brought into the lives of so many.

He will be greatly missed and very fondly remembered.

Susan, Philip and all the family

Details of John’s funeral and the arrangements for celebrating his life will be shared in due course.

🐾 You Know How Much We Care About Your Dog…

With the heat climbing this week, we want every furry friend at Hendwr to stay cool, safe and happy.

Here’s how to help your dog beat the heat while enjoying their holiday:

☀️ Keep Cool
• Never leave pets alone in caravans
• Use cooling mats or damp towels
• Keep water bowls topped up
• Walk early morning or late evening

💧 Watch for Signs of Heatstroke
Excessive panting • Lethargy • Drooling
If you notice any of these, move your dog to shade and cool them gently.

🌳 Provide Shade & Rest
Set up a shaded spot under your caravan or awning — dogs need breaks too!

🐶 Because at Hendwr, we don’t just welcome dogs — we care about them.

Stay safe, stay cool, and give your best friend an extra cuddle today 💚

🥵 Heatwave Safety Advice for Static Caravan Owners at Hendwr

With temperatures rising, here is essential guidance to help static caravan owners keep their caravans cool, safe, and comfortable during a heatwave.

Keep the Caravan Cool

- Close blinds and curtains before the sun hits to block heat.

- Open windows on opposite sides to create a cross‑breeze.

- Turn off unused appliances as they generate unnecessary heat.

Improve Airflow

- Use fans facing outward to pull hot air out of the caravan.

- Open roof vents fully to release rising heat.

- Keep internal doors open to allow air to circulate.

Bedroom Safety

- Use lightweight cotton bedding.

- Freeze water bottles and wrap them in a towel to use as cool packs.

Cooking & Appliances

- Avoid using the oven or hob during peak heat.

- Cook outdoors where possible.

- Unplug devices when not in use to reduce heat output.

Pet Safety

- Never leave pets alone inside the caravan.

- Provide cooling mats and ensure water bowls are always full.

- Walk pets early morning or late evening when temperatures are lower.

Fire Safety

- Keep BBQs away from decking and caravan exteriors.

- Check smoke alarms and ensure vents remain clear.

Quick Cooling Hacks

- Hang a damp sheet in front of an open window to cool incoming air.

- Place a bowl of ice in front of a fan for instant cooling.

- Take cool showers before bed to lower body temperature.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to the office if you need anything whilst on site!

Stay Cool, Stay Safe, Enjoy the Sunshine ☀️
