🚗 End of lease? Don’t let damaged wheels cost you more than they need to.

This BMW 1 Series was in with us today for a full diamond cut refurbishment after its wheels had picked up plenty of kerb damage over the course of the lease.

Rather than risk expensive charges when handing the car back, our client chose to have the wheels professionally refurbished on our in-house CNC diamond cutting lathe, restoring them back to a factory finish.

Another set of incorrectly “refurbished” Cupra diamond cut wheels saved today before our client handed the car back at the end of their lease.

🚫 If you see silver paint on the face of a diamond cut wheel, it hasn’t been diamond cut.

A genuine diamond cut finish is created by machining the face of the wheel on a CNC lathe, leaving the distinctive bare aluminium finish before it’s protected with clear lacquer. Spraying silver paint over the face might look acceptable from a distance, but it’s not the correct repair and could still leave you facing charges when the vehicle is inspected.

Unfortunately, we see this time and time again from cheaper repairers offering a “diamond cut look” without actually carrying out the machining process.

At JD Wheels, every diamond cut refurbishment is completed properly using our in-house CNC lathe—no shortcuts, no silver paint, just a factory-correct finish.

We see aftermarket replica wheels advertised all over social media at the moment, usually with a tempting price tag attached.

Whilst they may seem like a bargain, they very rarely are.

This replica Mercedes wheel was sent to us by a local accident repair centre. Despite not being particularly old, you can clearly see the coating failing, corrosion setting in across the face and the overall finish deteriorating badly.

The reality is that many replica wheels are manufactured to a lower standard than genuine OEM wheels. Inferior coatings, poorer quality castings and questionable finishing processes often mean they don’t stand the test of time.

You may think you’re saving money when you buy them, but when the finish starts failing, corrosion appears and they need repairing or replacing, that bargain can quickly become an expensive mistake.

As always, buy cheap, buy twice.

This full set of heavily corroded Mercedes wheels came in looking every bit of their 26 years, with corrosion, tired coatings and plenty of wear and tear showing their age.

After going through our full powder coat refurbishment process, they’ve been completely transformed and given a new lease of life. Stripped back, prepared properly and refinished to a high standard, ready for many more years on the road.

Our client decided to move away from the original finish and opted for Aston Martin Bronze – a colour that completely changes the look of the car. The bronze tones complement the bodywork perfectly and give the car a much more premium, sporty appearance without going over the top.

Three full sets of diamond cut wheels delivered and installed for one of our long-term commercial clients. We genuinely appreciate the continued support from customers who trust us year after year. 👌

On another note, we also received a couple of very short messages today from a potential customer who appeared to be struggling with our quote and booking process.

Just a gentle reminder that we’re a busy workshop. Between carrying out refurbishments, delivering wheels, speaking with customers and occasionally being behind the wheel ourselves, we can’t always reply instantly. We do our best to respond as quickly as possible, but a little patience and courtesy go a long way.

If you’re struggling with our online booking or quote system, don’t overcomplicate it — just send us a WhatsApp message with a few photos of your wheels and we’ll happily point you in the right direction.

We’re always happy to help, but respectful communication works both ways.

JD Wheels Liverpool are looking for a young apprentice to join our growing team at the workshop 👨🏻‍🔧⚙️

This is a hands-on role working within a busy alloy wheel refurbishment workshop with opportunities to learn specialist skills and progress within the business.

🔧 Duties will include:
• Jacking up vehicles & wheel removal
• Tyre fitting & balancing
• Preparing wheels for refurbishment
• General workshop duties & cleaning
• Assisting the technicians day to day

As time allows, the successful applicant will also be taught:
⚙️ CNC Lathe operation
🎨 Powder coating processes
🛞 Alloy wheel refurbishment techniques

✅ Applicants should:
• Have an interest in cars
• Be reliable & willing to learn
• Be able to travel to our Liverpool workshop daily
• Work well as part of a team
• Be able to converse with clients in a professional manner
• Have a good attitude and work ethic

💷 Salary:
• Initial salary will be paid at the National Apprentice Wage applicable to the successful applicant’s age group.
• Wages will be paid monthly at the end of each calendar month.
• Opportunities for progression and pay reviews will be available as skills and responsibilities develop.

This is a great opportunity for somebody looking to get into the motor trade and learn specialist skills in a growing industry.

⚠️ Last Minute End of Lease Save! ⚠️

This set of Cupra diamond cut wheels arrived with us at the last minute before the vehicle was due to be handed back at the end of its lease.

Unfortunately, a third-party “smart repair” had already been attempted and came very close to ruining the wheels completely. Diamond cut wheels cannot be correctly repaired with abrasive methods, silver paint, or roadside cosmetic fixes. Once the original profile of the wheel has been altered, there is often no way back.

Thankfully, these still had enough material remaining for us to carry out a proper CNC diamond cut refurbishment and get them looking as they should before inspection.

If you’re approaching the end of a lease agreement, don’t leave wheel repairs until the last minute and be very careful who you trust with diamond cut wheels. A cheap cosmetic repair today could result in expensive charges tomorrow.

At JD Wheels, all diamond cutting is carried out on our in-house CNC lathe using the correct refurbishment process.
