This heavily damaged VW Tiguan diamond cut wheel was with us last week for our Full Factory Diamond Cut Refurbishment.

With significant damage to the wheel, a simple face cut and lacquer wasn’t going to be enough to restore it properly.

🔧 Our Full Factory Process:

✅ Chemically stripped back to bare metal
✅ Media blasted for thorough surface preparation
✅ Powder primed for a durable foundation
✅ Precision diamond cut on our in-house CNC lathe

⚠️ Remember: Diamond cutting removes a small amount of material, so not every damaged wheel can safely be recut. We assess each wheel before machining.

🚗 VOLVO – END OF LEASE DIAMOND CUT REFURBISHMENT! ✨

Another vehicle getting ready for its end-of-lease inspection here at JD Wheels Liverpool!

This Volvo was with us for our Diamond Cut Refurbishment – Face Cut & Lacquer service, restoring the damaged diamond cut faces ahead of its return.

🔧 Our process:

✅ Wheels inspected to ensure they’re suitable for recutting

✅ Original wheel profiles measured and retained

✅ Damaged faces precision recut on our in-house CNC lathe

✅ Fresh DTM clear lacquer applied to protect the newly machined finish

✅ Wheels refitted and correctly torqued

⚠️ Returning a lease or P*P vehicle?

Don’t be tempted by cheap abrasive repairs, sanding or silver paint disguised as diamond cutting!

These methods can alter the original wheel profile, leave obvious repair marks and lacquer transitions, and potentially result in failed end-of-lease inspections and additional charges.

💎 Our Face Cut & Lacquer service is ideal where damage is limited to the diamond cut face, with a typical turnaround of 3–4 hours per wheel.

🚗 BMW 3 SERIES – MORE THAN JUST A WHEEL REFURB! 🔧🔥

A full set of heavily kerb-damaged BMW 3 Series alloys through the JD Wheels workshop for our full powder coat refurbishment.

These wheels had certainly seen better days! Not only were they suffering from extensive kerb damage, they were absolutely caked in years of stubborn, baked-on brake dust.

Unfortunately, the cosmetic damage was only half the story! 😳

⚠️ WHAT WE DISCOVERED:

🔩 Overtightened Wheel Nuts – Multiple wheel nuts had been tightened so excessively that they couldn’t be removed normally, requiring additional time and work to extract them.

🔩 Seized Wheels – Both front wheels were firmly seized onto the hubs, making removal another unnecessary headache.

⚠️ THIS IS WHY CORRECT WHEEL NUT TORQUE MATTERS!

Overtightening wheel nuts can lead to:

❌ Damaged wheel bolts and threads

❌ Rounded or seized fasteners

❌ Distorted or damaged wheel components

❌ Expensive additional labour and repairs

❌ Difficulty removing a wheel in an emergency

And don’t forget, undertightening can be equally dangerous, potentially allowing a wheel to work loose!

Correct torque would have helped prevent the overtightened fastener issues we encountered. Wheel seizure onto hubs is generally caused by corrosion between the mating surfaces, highlighting the importance of proper wheel fitting and maintenance.

💎 With the additional issues resolved, these battered BMW alloys received a complete powder coat refurbishment, giving them a fresh finish and a new lease of life!

At JD Wheels, we don’t just concentrate on making wheels look good. Correct fitting, proper preparation and safety are every bit as important as the final finish.

Every wheel we refit has its fasteners triple checked using a calibrated torque wrench to the manufacturer’s specification.

🔥 NOT ONE FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED! 🔥

A Mercedes A-Class joined us last week for a full set of powder coat refurbishments, and the owner fancied something a little different! 👀

The only problem? Deciding on a colour!

After weighing up a few options, our client eventually settled on SUPERFLARE NOVA 💥

And what a choice it was! 😍

At first glance, this finish looks almost black. It’s a deep, dark, understated colour… until the sunlight hits it! ☀️

That’s when things get interesting!

💜 Purple
💚 Green
🩵 Teal
❤️ Red

The finish explodes into a spectacular colour-shifting effect, with a heavy metallic flake adding an incredible amount of sparkle and depth.

Every angle, every change in lighting, a completely different look!

And it’s not just about appearance. These wheels have received our full powder coat refurbishment process, providing protection across the entire wheel, not just the visible face.

BMW M3 Diamond Cut with us this morning, not the easiest wheels for a cut and lacquer

🚨 CUPRA DIAMOND CUT RESCUE 🚨

A pair of Cupra diamond cuts rescued after a nasty run-in with the kerb 😬

Unfortunately, the kerb damage wasn’t the only problem… these wheels had also been subjected to a previous abrasive repair 🤦‍♂️ FFS!

Abrasively sanding or grinding a diamond cut face might be quicker and cheaper, but it can alter the original profile of the wheel and potentially leave it unable to be correctly CNC cut again.

Thankfully, there was enough material left on these to save them properly. 👌

✅ Damage repaired
✅ Wheel profile checked
✅ Faces correctly recut on our in-house CNC lathe
✅ DTM clear lacquer applied
✅ OEM-style diamond cut finish restored ✨

Diamond cut means CNC cut — not sanded, polished or painted silver.
