Tom Herron & Gorse Lea TT
John Shears from Maidstone, Kent suggested that a bend on the TT course that the late Tom Herron liked but hadn't any reference on TT map etc 45-years ago should be named after him.
3-time TT winner Herron made reference to the bend during an article on his lap of the TT course as a fast unnamed bend just before Ballacraine. Today we now know the bend as 'Gorse Lea' that is popular with spectators and photographers, plus was also a television camera location point this year. Photographed here with Bruce Anstey.
Can anyone shed anymore information as to what or did not happen about this suggestion.

GREAT RACES & RIDERS - by Leslie Moore

Daytona 200
Outside of the Irish racing scene and TT, the biggest motorcycle race event for young fans 50-years ago was the Daytona 200 meeting in America. It was one of those meetings that attracted the world's best riders of the 70s followed by other world champions contested meetings like Imola 200, Mallory Park 'Race of the Year' and Scarborough Gold Cup.
Daytona was the first major meeting of the year which world champions were very keen to win the classic 200 miler. Jarno Saarinen won it in 1973 but my first memory of Daytona was hearing that Giacomo Agostini won it the following year when having his first race outing with Yamaha. Seeing Agostini on his Yamaha at Daytona in the following weeks MCN was a memorable memory for all young race fans.
Daytona with its unique banking curves became even more famous when Barry Sheene had his infamous 175mph crash there in 1975. Our leading Irish riders of the 70s Tom Herron, Joey Dunlop, Steven Cull, Con Law all raced there. Over the following decades fellow Irishmen Eddie Laycock, Gary Cowan, Alan & Jamie Patterson, Rhys Irwin and Michael Dunlop also raced at Daytona.
Daytona 200 was the number one event outside the World Grand Prix championships.
