❤️🏠 LIFE AFTER THE FIRE… THE PART PEOPLE DON'T ALWAYS SEE. 🏠❤️
People often say, "At least you've all got each other."
And they're absolutely right. Believe me, there isn't a single day that goes by when I'm not thankful that my family made it out of our house fire safely.
But there's another side to what happened on the 3rd August that people don't always see.
The part that happens after the fire engines have gone, the smoke has cleared and the world carries on turning.
For everyone else, life goes back to normal.
For us? Normality feels like a distant memory.
It's now been over two months since we lost the comfort and security of our family home. Over two months of living in temporary accommodation, waking up somewhere that isn't ours, and trying to make the best of a situation none of us ever imagined we'd find ourselves in.
And I'll tell you something...
It's not just the bricks and mortar you miss.
It's the little things.
Having your own space. Sitting on your own sofa. Cooking a family meal in your own kitchen. Being able to shut your front door at the end of a long day and think, "I'm home."
Things we all take for granted until suddenly they're no longer there.
Then there's the uncertainty.
Not knowing exactly when we'll be able to return home. Wondering what tomorrow might bring. Trying to give the children some sense of normality when, if I'm completely honest, there are days when even us adults struggle with it.
All while trying to keep my business running, keep a smile on my face and carry on as though everything is okay.
But the truth is, some days it's bloody hard.
I'm not writing this looking for sympathy. I'm writing it because sometimes people see the smiles, the jokes, the business posts and the usual Damo carrying on as normal, but they don't always see what's happening behind the scenes.
And through all of this, something truly wonderful has happened.
People have shown us kindness in ways we never expected. ❤️
Family, friends, customers, acquaintances and even complete strangers have reached out, offered support, shared our story and donated towards helping us rebuild what we've lost.
Our GoFundMe has now reached £445, and Becki and I are genuinely humbled by every single act of generosity.
To some, that might just be a number.
To us, it's hope. It's kindness. It's knowing that people care.
We still have a long road ahead of us, and I wish I could tell you when we'll finally be back home, but right now we simply don't know.
What I do know is that we're going to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Because that's what families do.
A fire may have taken away our home comforts, our belongings and our normality, but it hasn't taken away our determination to rebuild.
To everyone who has stood by us, thank you. You have no idea how much your kindness means.
And if you're only just hearing our story, I've included our GoFundMe link below. There's absolutely no obligation to donate, but sharing our story would mean the world to us.
One day, we'll finally turn the key in our own front door again.
And when that day comes, I don't think any of us will ever take the simple words "We're home" for granted again. 🏠❤️
Much love and appreciation,
Damo, Becki & Family ❤️
