πŸ”§Mercedes-Benz Sprinter | No-Crank No-Start Diagnostics & Start/Stop Switch Replacement

This Mercedes-Benz Sprinter was reported with a no-crank, no-start issue; the vehicle would not turn over.

A fault like this can have several possible causes, including the battery, starter motor, wiring, relays, earth points, key authorisation, control module signals or switch inputs. That’s why proper testing is essential before replacing any parts.

After a thorough diagnostic inspection, we traced the root cause to the Start/Stop switch. The faulty switch was replaced with a genuine Mercedes-Benz part, and the starting issue was resolved.

At DiagSolve Motorworks, we focus on finding the real fault first. Where a proper repair is suitable, we repair it to the correct standard. Where a component needs replacing, we use genuine or high-quality OE-level parts for a safe and dependable repair.

No guessing. No unnecessary parts. Just the right process for the right repair.

πŸ”§Vauxhall Astra J | Engine Management Light & Misfire Diagnostics

This Vauxhall Astra was reported with an intermittent engine management light, along with jerking and misfire symptoms while driving.
Using advanced diagnostics, we confirmed a Cylinder 1 misfire.
A misfire can have several possible causes, including spark plugs, ignition coils, fuel injectors, wiring faults, or engine mechanical issues; so proper testing is essential before replacing parts.

We carried out thorough checks on the ignition and fuel system, including the spark plugs, injectors and ignition coil/coil pack. The fault was confirmed to be with the ignition coil.

Once replaced with an OE-quality part, the misfire was resolved, and smooth engine operation was restored.

A clear reminder: same symptom, many possible causes; proper diagnostics find the right solution.

This Suzuki Swift 1.3 DDiS came in cranking but not starting, with P0087 logged for fuel rail pressure too low.
As part of the diagnostic process, the fuel supply side, rail-pressure feedback and high-pressure pump control side all needed checking properly.
This reel shows one part of that process; testing the fuel delivery control valve (SCV - Suction Control Valve) removed from the high-pressure pump.
The solenoid responded on test, so the next step was to consider whether the fault lay deeper in the pump itself or elsewhere in the fuel-pressure control side.

Busy week for starter motor diagnostics & replacement πŸ”§

This week we had several starter motor jobs for some of our regular customers, including:

πŸš— Ford C-Max TDCi
πŸš— Vauxhall Corsa 16V TWINPORT
πŸš— Toyota Corolla Verso VVT-i

Each vehicle was reported with starting issues, and after proper diagnostic checks, the faults were confirmed to be with the starter motor/starting system, not just the battery.

The faulty starters were replaced with high-quality OE-level units, followed by final checks to make sure each vehicle was starting correctly and ready to get back on the road.

Starting problems can come from the battery, wiring, starter motor, relays, control signals or even engine-related faults; so proper testing matters before replacing parts.

⚠️ DPF warning light on? A regeneration is not always the answer.

A DPF warning light does not always mean the answer is simply to force a regeneration.

If the warning keeps coming back, the issue could be a blocked DPF or another fault stopping the system from regenerating properly.
On modern diesel vehicles, repeated DPF problems can be linked to things like pressure sensor faults, temperature sensor issues, EGR faults, air-flow related issues, or driving conditions that do not allow the vehicle to complete a proper regeneration. πŸš—πŸ’¨

So while a regeneration may clear the warning for the moment, it will not solve the problem if the filter is too blocked or the actual cause is still there.
That is why proper diagnosis matters before forcing repeated regens or replacing parts unnecessarily. βœ…

This SEAT Ibiza was reported with the engine management light on, along with jerking and engine misfire symptoms.

A full diagnostic inspection confirmed a Cylinder 2 misfire.
On VAG/SEAT engines, misfires are often caused by spark plugs, ignition coils, fuel injectors, wiring faults, or mechanical issues, so it’s important not to jump straight to parts replacement.

We tested the spark plugs and ignition coils, and both were operating correctly.
Further testing then focused on the fuel injectors, including resistance checks.
The test confirmed that one injector was outside the expected specification, with a lower-than-rated resistance compared with a good injector.

The faulty fuel injector was replaced, the system was checked, and the misfire was resolved.

A good example of why proper diagnostics matter; same symptom, several possible causes, but only one correct fix.

This Ford Focus Mk3 1.0 EcoBoost came in with a flashing engine management light and jerky acceleration.
During road-test diagnostics, live data was monitored to properly trace the fault, which identified a misfire on cylinder 3.
On these 1.0 EcoBoost engines, a cylinder misfire can have a number of possible causes, so proper diagnosis matters before replacing any parts.
In this case, the fault was traced to a faulty cylinder 3 ignition coil, which was then replaced.

This BMW 1 Series, owned by one of our regular customers, was reported with a no-crank, no-start issue. We were initially called out for a possible battery replacement; but as always, we tested before replacing anything.

After carrying out proper checks, we confirmed the battery was not the root cause. Further diagnostics pointed to a faulty starter motor.

During the inspection, we also found a serious issue with the starter main power supply cable; the B+ terminal lug at the starter end was damaged, loose and corroded. This can cause poor current flow, intermittent starting issues, short circuits, and in worst cases, a fire risk.

The starter motor was replaced using a high-quality part, and the damaged power cable terminal was repaired properly by replacing the terminal lug to the correct standard, ensuring a secure and safe electrical connection.

A good reminder: not every non-start is a battery fault.
Proper diagnostics saves money, prevents unnecessary parts replacement, and keeps the repair safe.

Mercedes A180 with an intermittent right rear lamp fault (tail/brake/indicator + dash warning).
We tested the SAM unit with live data and actuator tests, traced it to a failed connector and wiring, plus a poor aftermarket camera splice into the factory loom.
Connector replaced, wiring repaired properly, faults cleared. All rear lights restored.
