ACIDITY IN WINDSCREEN REPAIR RESINS – TECHNICAL CLARIFICATION
(Left to right in the picture GT resin sits in front of milk and battery acid far right)
There has been longstanding discussion within the windscreen repair industry regarding the acidity of repair resins. To move beyond assumption, we chose to rely on measured data.
GT REPAIRX resin was independently tested by a leading UK university laboratory to assess its profile. (BSAU242B:2022)
The tests show that GT resin’s pH is close to neutral, comparable to milk and approaching that of water. This places it well above many common acidic substances encountered in everyday use.
For comparison, GT REPAIRX resin is significantly less acidic than:
☕ Coffee
🍟 Acetic acid (vinegar)
🍅 Tomatoes
🍋 Citrus fruits
🥤 Carbonated soft drinks
Although GT resin demonstrates low acidity, it remains an industrial adhesive, and standard safety protocols must be followed at all times.
The use of appropriate PPE, including nitrile gloves, is essential during handling and application.
Other types of resins.
It is also important to clarify that no odour is not a reliable indicator of chemical exposure. The absence of smell should not imply the absence of vapour.
Odourless vapours may present increased risk due to the lack of sensory warning, similar to carbon monoxide. Adhesive vapours can still be present even when no smell is detected.
