While John is out on the road delivering high-quality, professional driver training, Carol works hard behind the scenes handling phone calls, bookings, and all the day-to-day admin to keep everything running smoothly. Together, they’ve built a friendly, reliable training business you can trust.

Meet the Instructor 🚛

Hi, I’m John Ayre, the driving instructor behind SDS Training.

I’ve been driving professionally for over 35 years in a variety of roles, gaining real, hands on experience across the industry. That time on the road means I don’t just teach you how to pass a test. I teach you how to drive confidently, safely, and in the real world.

I offer 1-to-1 instruction only, so every lesson is focused entirely on you. Whether you’re new to LGV driving, returning after time away, or simply need a confidence boost, my approach is calm, supportive, and focused on your success.

I’m passionate about helping people with career progression, whether you’re changing careers, moving up from van or warehouse work, or looking to increase your earnings. I also offer refresher courses for drivers who want to rebuild confidence and feel comfortable back behind the wheel.

I’m a friendly, patient, and fun instructor, learning works best when you feel supported. Everyone learns differently, and I take the time to explain things clearly, at your pace, without pressure.

We are a small family business and pride ourselves in the training we provide, based in Swinderby outside LINCOLN. John & Carol first started the company in 1987. John has over 30 years experience and has trained thousands of candidates and will guide you through what is required to gain your licence and start you on the road to becoming a professional driver.

Our courses are tailored to meet your individual driver needs. Whether you’re wishing to take a car & trailer test, upgrading, wishing to start a career as a professional driver or wanting some refresher training we can help.
We appreciate that you may work and may have a family; therefore we do our up most to meet individual personal requirements.
Whether you already have employment and are seeking a career change to increase your salary, are already a driver who wishes to upgrade their licence categories, recently been made redundant and looking to learn new skills, or manager of a corporation seeking training for your employees SDS has the same commitment to providing the best training for you.
Once your training is complete we will still be available for any questions, advise on finding work, locating further training course providers or if you’re just passing and fancy a cuppa and a chat.
All our courses are based on one to one tuition, giving us an excellent pass success rate.
Our instructor knows what is required to become a professional driver, we teach more than just the basics, as he is also a driver. He will share his practical knowledge and experience he's gained to help you get ahead in the industry. Training you to think and drive like a professional driver in preparation for your practical exam and your future career.
