FOR SALE by Paul Thomas.

Due to health reasons I now find it necessary to sell my very recently rebuilt 1978 BMW R80/7.

The bike has been totally stripped to the last nut and bolt and rebuilt by Nigel Swaby of Flat Twins using original BMW, upgraded and stainless parts.

This is, effectively, a “new” bike.

Engine completely stripped, cleaned and totally rebuilt with new bearings, seals and electrics throughout.
Siebenrock 1000cc kit fitted.
Stainless pushrod tubes.
Heads rebuilt with unleaded conversion, upgraded rockers etc.

Carbs cleaned and rebuilt with ethanol-resistant floats and float bowls.

Upgraded starter motor.

Stainless exhaust system.

Deeper sump.

Fully rebuilt gearbox.
Complete new clutch, pressure plate etc.

Stainless fasteners used throughout.

Frame, swingarm etc. powder coated.
New bearings fitted throughout.

All new cables and wiring fitted.

Electronic ignition with new ignition switch.

New battery with upgraded leads.

Katdash instrument upgrade.

NOS handlebar switches and grips fitted.

NOS double horns fitted.

Front forks rebuilt.

IKON rear shocks.

Upgraded double Brembo front brakes with handlebar master cylinder and new brake lines.

Stainless rear brake rod and new brake shoes.

Rebuilt wheels with stainless spokes, new bearings and new tyres.

Surefoot sidestand fitted.

Tank, sidepanels and mudguards repainted in original BMW colour.

Pattern original-design seat with metal base - Non standard (lower) seat also included in sale.

Battery trickle charger/auxiliary socket fitted.

Always garaged.

I’ve probably missed one or two things out. My intention was for this to be my “last bike,” medical problems have unfortunately stymied this.

The bike has just had it’s “post run-in” service with Nigel and (although Tax- and MOT-exempt) is MOT’d until 23rd September.

Owing to rising costs and advancing years I have to announce that Flat Twins Ltd is no longer trading. I will be finishing any work in hand in the next few months and not taking on any big jobs from now on. I will be available for service work until the end of november if I can fit it in, and always here for advice. My heartfelt thanks to all for your support, custom and friendship as it was always about people. Contents of workshop will be up for sale in december and have a lot of parts available now, and if interested please contact me. Pip pip!

The Triumph that startrd third kick rattled like hell. Seems that the cam timing is way off and pistons are touching the valves. Hope I can sort it as the cams have three keyways each. Special tool ordered to remove cam gears.

Customer off on holiday made it as far as Stafford when something whipped round the wheel and took out the connecting brake line under the guard, also damaging the thread where the line enters the caliper. Very lucky to stay on board. RAC brought it in. Managed to ream the first three damaged threads out, saving the caliper, and replace the line.

Have to investigate and see if worth saving.
