CHAPTER 119: BMW X5 M60i
Paint Protection Film - Proof
This is why Paint Protection Film matters.
This BMW X5 M60i arrived at Edit 25 after an electric garage door caught the driver's door, leaving a visible line of damage across the SunTek Paint Protection Film.
The important part was what we found underneath.
The film had taken the contact.
The damaged PPF was carefully removed, allowing us to inspect the original BMW paintwork beneath.
Intact.
Unmarked.
Preserved.
The damaged protective layer could simply be removed and replaced, while the original finish remained exactly as it should.
This is a real-world example of Paint Protection Film doing exactly what it is there to do — providing a sacrificial protective barrier between the vehicle's paintwork and the things it encounters in everyday use.
Before the PPF replacement, the entire BMW X5 M60i was thoroughly cleaned, with particular attention given to the driver's door and surrounding areas ahead of installation.
The damaged film was removed, the exposed paintwork inspected and the driver's door carefully prepared. The door handle was then removed to allow the replacement film to be installed properly, before fresh SunTek Paint Protection Film was applied across the complete panel, followed by careful reassembly and final finishing.
The result is virtually indistinguishable from the rest of the vehicle, with the protection fully restored and the original paintwork preserved underneath.
The damage was to the film.
The paintwork remained protected.
The PPF was replaced.
For a vehicle like the BMW X5 M60i, Paint Protection Film provides protection against stone chips, road debris, scratches, scuffs and everyday contact while helping to preserve the vehicle's original paintwork.
And sometimes the clearest way to demonstrate the value of PPF is simply to remove damaged film and see what is underneath.
Edit 25 provides professional Paint Protection Film installation in Letchworth Garden City, including high-impact area protection, front-end PPF packages and full-vehicle PPF installations for clients across Hitchin, Baldock, Stevenage, Stotfold and Hertfordshire.
