Learner drivers should know what good instruction looks like. 🚗

The updated ADI Code of Practice makes it clearer what driving instructors should and shouldn’t be doing in lessons.

Your lessons should feel:
✅ safe
✅ respectful
✅ professional
✅ clear

That includes honest advice, clear boundaries, no phone use during lessons, and transparency around fees, cancellations and refunds.

The more learners know what to expect, the easier it is to recognise good instruction.

MOCK TEST TRAINING FOR PDI’s & ADI’s 🚗

How realistic are the mock tests you deliver?

DVSA actively encourages instructors to use realistic mock tests as part of preparing learners for test day, and it’s READY TO PASS campaign identifies mock tests as one of the signs a learner may be ready (or not!) for the real thing
I’m now offering a 90 minute mock test training session for PDI’s & ADI’s
We will cover realistic test structure, examiner-style directions, fault assessment, intervention, route planning and effective post test feedback
1 to 1 - £90
1 to 2 - £65 per person
Training takes place in my training vehicle, using the ADI/PDI as the driver so we can pause, discuss and practise different elements
25 years’ experience as a driving instructor + instructor trainer.

From 1 October, the DVSA is changing the way learners can swap driving test appointments. 🚗

The good news? Both learners will no longer need to be available at the same time — but they must both contact DVSA on the same working day.

A small change that should make swapping tests a little easier. ✅

Driving test slots are not only released at 6am on a Monday 👀

I heard this directly at the instructor conference this weekend.

Additional test appointments can appear randomly throughout the week, including when examiners submit overtime or when previously held-back slots become available.

So if you’re looking for a test, the best advice is simple: check regularly, on different days and at different times of day.

You may have far more chance of spotting a cancellation or newly released slot than if you only check first thing on Monday morning.

Please only book a test when your instructor agrees you’re ready — getting the slot is one thing, being properly prepared for it is another. 🚗✅
