⚠️ Timing belts don't always give you a second chance...

This vehicle came in today for a routine timing belt replacement, and it genuinely couldn't have been much closer.

📸 Photo 1: One of the timing belt teeth has started to tear away and is on the verge of breaking off completely. If that tooth lets go, the belt can jump timing instantly, often resulting in severe engine damage.

📸 Photo 2: The tensioner wasn't doing much better. The mounting bolt has bent, allowing the retaining nut to gradually work loose. By the time we stripped it down, there was less than a single turn of thread holding the nut on. Had it come off, the timing belt would have lost tension with potentially catastrophic consequences.

This is exactly why manufacturers specify replacement intervals. Timing belts rarely give much warning before they fail, and waiting until there's a problem can turn a relatively straightforward maintenance job into a multi-thousand-pound engine rebuild.

If you're unsure when your timing belt is due, get in touch. We'd much rather replace a belt than an engine. 🔧🚗

🚗 Suzuki Vitara | Diesel Fume Smell Investigation

This Suzuki Vitara came to us with a reported diesel fume smell and what appeared to be an oil leak.

On inspection, we found the engine was suffering from prolonged injector blow-by, allowing combustion gases to escape past the injector seals and create heavy carbon deposits around the injectors.

Left untreated, injector blow-by only gets worse and can eventually lead to damaged injector seats, difficult injector removal and significantly more expensive repairs.

🔧 The repair involved:

✅ Removing all four injectors.
✅ Cleaning and preparing the injector seats.
✅ The injectors were removed and sent away for specialist testing. Based on the results, a complete new set of injectors was recommended and authorised by the customer.
✅ Installing the replacement injectors with new seals.
✅ Thoroughly removing the heavy carbon build-up before reassembly.

A good reminder that unusual smells shouldn't be ignored. A proper diagnosis can often identify the root cause before a relatively straightforward repair turns into a much bigger and more expensive job.

📢 Force Tuning will be closed on Wednesday 3rd June.
We're taking the opportunity to put the team through some training and development, while the boss is conveniently unavailable due to being on his honeymoon. Funny how that worked out... 😆💍
We'll be back open as normal the following day.

This vehicle arrived with the clutch pedal stuck firmly to the floor, leaving the customer stranded and unable to drive.
Once we got it into the workshop and removed the undertray, the cause quickly became apparent.
The concentric slave cylinder inside the gearbox bellhousing had failed, allowing clutch fluid to leak out and leaving the clutch unable to operate correctly.
Faults like this can happen without warning and often mean gearbox removal is required to access the failed component.
Fortunately, the issue was diagnosed quickly and the vehicle is now on its way to being repaired and back on the road.
Sometimes the biggest faults leave the smallest clues. 🔧
