🚗 Another MOT Emissions Success Story – Saffron Lane, Leicester 🚗

We recently attended a young lady in the Saffron Lane area of Leicester who was understandably worried after her Volvo failed its MOT emissions test.

After carrying out a full diagnostic inspection, we checked fuel trims, EGR operation, and a range of live data readings. While there were no fault codes stored, experience told us something wasn't quite right. We could hear the distinctive EGR valve rattle when revving the engine, and although it was only slightly out of range, it wasn't severe enough to trigger a diagnostic trouble code.

To address the issue, we carried out a professional engine carbon clean and adjusted the engine speed during the process to keep the EGR valve open, allowing us to clean both the valve and the rest of the engine more effectively.

✅ The result?

The customer called us the very next day to say her Volvo had sailed through its MOT emissions test. She also noticed the engine was running much quieter, smoother, and felt far more responsive.

🚐 Another successful DPF diagnostic job completed in Bitteswell, near Lutterworth, Leicestershire, for one of our trade customers.

The vehicle had stopped carrying out DPF regenerations because the pre-programmed DPF mileage limit had been reached. This prevented the system from regenerating, which could have led to costly repairs if left unchecked.

Thankfully, the customer contacted us quickly. After carrying out a full diagnostic inspection, we found the DPF pressure was only 10 millibars at idle – an excellent reading, confirming that the DPF itself was still in good condition and did not require cleaning.

Instead of an unnecessary DPF clean or replacement, we were able to reprogram a new DPF into the system, resetting the service life for another 110,000 miles. We also programmed the Eolys (PAT) fluid system to indicate a full tank, allowing the customer's mechanic to simply refill the pouch and complete the job.

🚐💨 Out in Stockingford, Nuneaton, Warwickshire today carrying out a DPF clean on this limited-edition Nissan Qashqai – otherwise known as the "Yellow Peril"! 😎

The vehicle had reached its DPF mileage limit, with the countdown showing 104,275 miles. As a result, the DPF had stopped regenerating completely.

Initial diagnostics showed the DPF pressure sitting at around 44 millibars at idle. During our investigation, we also found an airflow ratio fault code. Further inspection revealed a split turbo pipe, which was preventing the vehicle from regenerating the DPF correctly.

As it was late on a Saturday afternoon, the customer ordered the replacement pipe ready for fitting. We then carried out our professional DPF cleaning service.

✅ DPF pressure reduced from 44mb to just 5mb at idle

This time we were out in Great Glen, Leicestershire, working on a Mercedes suffering from a heavily contaminated DPF.

Following a thorough diagnostic inspection and analysis of the live data, we found no underlying faults with the vehicle. The main cause was frequent short journeys, preventing the DPF from reaching the temperatures needed for effective regeneration. As you can see from the video, this DPF was heavily loaded with soot.

A few weeks ago, we were out in Twycross, Leicestershire, not far from the zoo, helping a customer who had only recently purchased his vehicle. Unfortunately, the previous owner had cleared the DPF fault codes before the sale, masking an underlying issue.

After investigating, we found that a recently fitted thermostat was faulty, preventing the engine from reaching and maintaining the required 90°C operating temperature. As a result, the DPF was unable to carry out a proper regeneration, leading to blockage issues.
