This week was the first full wheel build on the new wheel build station, few tweaks on tool layout but overall it works really well, its great having an area dedicated to wheelbuilding and everything to hand.
The first build was a set for a Sonder Broken Road Ti, I used a pair of DT Swiss XM421 29" rims with 28 holes mounted to a pair of Bitex BX211 hubs in orange with Sapim Race spokes and silver brass ni***es. It all came together really well, these build so nice and tension up beautifully. Be interesting to see how they look mounted to the bike.

Like buses, for ages you do no wheel builds then all of a sudden loads come along and with their own issues, a few with rim replacement, a couple with hub replacement and one a full new build, making for a great variety, all with a different feel to each one in the way they build, the skill in the builder is to understand how each one is going to build from the first twist of a spoke key, each one reacts differently to having tension applied, new rims behave differently to an older rim, some rims want to be built, others fight back and have to manipulated in to place to get the best out of them.
Its what makes build wheels fascinating.

Today I had a rim swap and spoke upgrade in for a rebuild, slowly picking up more bmx wheel builds in, quite good fun doing something smaller, requires a different level dexterity to get in to spokes, these will be on track on Sunday at the Nuneaton bmx track.

Next set of wheels that have left the workshop is these Top notch wheels, using Venn 77/67mm carbon rims on DT Swiss 240 hubs with Sapim CX Ray spokes wrapped in Vittoria Corsa Pro tyres, absolutely stunning wheels, such a real pleasure to build, super light and stiff, I can see a lot personal records broken with these on.

A couple of recent wheel builds that have now gone to customers, 1st up is this build, set of XM421 rims on Bitex hubs fitted with Sapim Race spokes, clad in Vittoria Barzo/ Mezcal tyres, to be fitted to a Sonder Broken Road Ti adventure mtb, real pleasure to build, these will cover many miles.

Another set of wheels leaving the Cycle Shed Wheels, another set going to up North, seems to be a regular thing lately, this time its a set of Bitex BX212 centre lock hubs mounted on DT Swiss XM421 rims with Sapim Race spokes and brass ni***es, ready set up tubeless with Muc Off tubeless valves, Peatys sealant supplied, they will be fitted to a Bianchi Nitron 9.3, should look and ride fantastic.

Latest sets of wheels that have come through the workshop are these gravel wheels, one set on DT Swiss GR531 rims and Hope Pro5 hubs, the other set on DT Swiss RR481 rims with Hope Pro5 hubs, these build so nice and really look the part, get a real pleasure from putting these together.
