Now THIS is a camper! The iconic image of the swinging 60’s, as popular today as it was back then – the stunning Volkswagen Split Window Camper.

Imagine cruising down to the coast for a weekend’s camping in complete style, Janis Joplin playing on the stereo and nothing but waves, relaxing and music ahead for the next few days. Heaven.

There isn’t really much more to say about the Splitty, other than that we don’t know a single person that wouldn’t smile when they see one go past, that familiar sound of the flat-four engine thrumming away. It’s pure happiness.

Ignore the stats too – those are for the 60’s Splitty when it left the factory. Most have had the engines upgraded to 1.6 or 1.7 litre versions with more power in the 60 years since they were built, enabling them to keep up with modern traffic far easier.

It may have taken a while, but finally BMW’s I range of EVs is finally starting to fill out. First we had the i3 and i8, now we have the i4 and this – the iX SUV. With bold styling and impressive stats, this is taking the fight straight to Audi’s e-tron, Mercedes’ EQC and of course the Tesla Model X.

This is the top spec iX xDrive50 M-Sport model, so there are dual motors meaning it’s AWD, producing 516bhp and 765Nm of torque and giving ample acceleration to 62mph in a smidge over 4.5 seconds. But sitting in that floorpan is a monster 105kWh battery which means you will get 391 miles on a charge – that’s enough to get you from London to the Scottish border without stopping!

The iX is a ground-up EV design unlike the i4, so there’s huge amounts of space inside, an amazing, modern interior and more tech acronyms than you can imagine.

With range like this, we expect this BMW iX to be very popular!

Don't miss out on your chance to win this beast of an electric car!

When Tesla Motors released the Model S in 2012 they turned the luxury car market on its head. Here was an electric vehicle that has performance to rival an M5, comfort and noise levels to shame a Merc S-Class and a 300+mile driving range with virtually zero running costs.

Well after the success of the Model S, Tesla has decided to attack the SUV market too, with the Model X. Looking like a Model S that has been stretched upwards about 12 inches, the Model X is a 7-seat SUV with AWD, epic performance and the coolest doors ever fitted to a production car – the Falcon Doors - like the gullwing doors on a Mercedes SLS, these massive doors open up then out, meaning they need just 30cm of space next to the car to open. Plus they just look really, really cool.

To understand the name of this car you need to watch the 1987 Mel Brooks movie ‘Spaceballs’. Which may seem a little odd for a car maker, but this is Elon Musk we’re talking about so anything goes. In the film, the spaceship goes from Lightspeed, to Ludicrous (as per the old car) and the only thing faster than Ludicrous is Plaid Mode. So, we have the Model S Plaid.

So, silly name aside, this Model X is all about the numbers. There are three motors this time, and they put out a combined 1,006bhp. Yes, you read that correctly – 1,006bhp. Oh, and an estimated 1200Nm of torque.

That means this family SUV can hit 62mph in 2.5 seconds – that makes the Urus seem very, very slow to 62mph.

But the big numbers don’t stop there – this crazy fast SUV has a range of 340 miles. Can’t imagine anyone complaining about range anxiety with that number!

Visually the new Plaid gets a revised front bumper with better aerodynamic efficiency and a little more downforce, some wider side skirts and a new style of alloy wheels.

But the big change comes inside, with a completely new interior - a huge new landscape centre screen and redesigned centre console take centre stage, with a new binnacle for the driver and a very odd looking steering wheel which thankfully won't be available in many markets including the UK thanks to our regulations.

Audi had one of the toughest jobs in the world when it came to designing the second generation R8.

The first model was incredibly popular with over 55,000 sold worldwide, so they decided to play it safe with the styling – but for 2019 they've added an extra dose of aggression with a new front end that is full of angles, fins and serious presence.

We think it looks fantastic – somehow it appears faster and hungrier, like it wants to devour the road ahead of it and any cars it comes across.

With more advanced chassis technology, the new R8 is around 80 kg lighter than the old model and power is up too.

The 5.2 litre V10 engine is a further reworked version of the old powerplant, but now produces 563 bhp (in the base model!) giving incredible performance. 0-62 mph is dealt with in just 3.4 seconds on the way to the 201 mph top speed.

‘You’ll never find a car to replace my S-Class’ say many owners. Well how about an S-Class sized saloon, with an amazing interior, typical Mercedes styling and enough range to get you from London to Blackpool AND BACK AGAIN?

Exactly – say hello to the Mercedes EQS, the car that is set to replace the S-Class at the top of the executive saloon market.

You see this EQS450 model has a fairly modest power output by modern EV standards – 329bhp from one motor at the rear, meaning it’s RWD and has a truly huge 108kWh battery. Combined with a super slippery aerodynamic shape and ultra efficient drivetrain this means the EQS can go 478 miles between charges, a truly staggering range and one that not one single person could complain about. Especially when it can be charged from 10% to 80% in just half an hour on the latest rapid chargers being installed around the country.

The styling is typical Mercedes EQ, with a large blanked off grille and unmistakably Merc front end, but then there’s definitely a more slippery shape with a tapering rear end.

The real change comes inside though, with the whole dashboard being one giant screen – it literally stretches the width of the interior and down to the centre console and looks like something from a sci-fi film.

We can’t wait to drive this one!

The Marco Polo is certainly a more upmarket offering than the VW Camper. It’s based on their V-Class MPV and straight away offers a huge amount of space inside thanks to the long wheelbase and higher roofline. There’s a wooden floor inside, while the drivers and passenger seats turn around 180 degrees so you can sit at the fold-out table. There’s a fridge, cooker hob and sink to one side, and the roof raises to provide a bed for two, to complement the double bed formed by lying all the seats down together.

For 2020 there’s a more powerful 236bhp diesel engine so you get much better performance and the interior is pure Mercedes, so you get a high quality, stylish dashboard full of the latest tech and infotainment.

The Giulia Quadrifoglio scores a massive win straight away with its looks – aggressive, beautiful, sporting - it ticks all the boxes.

And it delivers on the technical front too – we have a RWD platform and powering those wheels through an 8-speed auto ‘box is a Ferrari-developed 2.9 litre twin turbo V6, producing a staggering 503bhp.

We finally have a proper Italian alternative to the German super saloons – viva Italia!

You need a van. But why should you drive around in a big, bland white box just like every other van on the roads? Well clearly Ford thinks along the same lines as the new Transit Trail certainly stands out from the crowd.

You see to start with, the Trail gets a whole host of mechanical upgrades such as AWD, a mechanical Quaife limited slip differential, raised ground clearance, 17-inch alloys with chunky tyres to ensure that you can take your van anywhere and it won’t get stuck.

But on top of that it looks awesome with the black exterior cladding, black wheels and the huge F O R D lettering across the grille just like on the uber-cool Raptor models.

Power is from the 168bhp 2.0 litre turbodiesel engine and we’re offering this in the mid-sized L3 body length, with the H2 roof.

This is a seriously rugged and cool looking van that backs up the looks with proper hardware. Yes please!

Bentley Continental GT V8

When Bentley released the Continental GT in 2004 it brought the legendary British Marque into the reaches of mere mortals, rather than the super-rich, but was never really a dynamic car – sure there were fast powerful versions, but none were sports cars. The second generation got a little more verve, though despite being all-new it barely looked any different. Now the third generation is out and represents a step-change for the Conti GT.

Taking inspiration from the EXP10 Speed6 concept, the new styling is far more athletic, with a similar nose that’s much lower, and muscular rear arches leading to a rear-end far removed from previous models. There are oval taillights and a lower, more sharply creased boot lid all of which add up to a seriously good looking car.

The new Continental GT is already lighter and more dynamically focused than the old model, but this V8 version takes that to a new level.

The 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 has 542bhp, but combined with the fact that the engine weighs a lot less over the nose of the car, this V8 coupe is a much more rewarding drive.

The V8 was the driver’s choice in the old line-up and it seems that will be the case here too

BMW M5 CS

The latest BMW M5 has slowly but surely been getting more powerful and more aggressive since its introduction in 2018. The M5 became M5 Competition, but now there’s a new king in town – the M5 CS.

CS is now reserved for the top of the tree versions of BMW’s M/// range, and has been seen on the M2, M3 and M4 as harder, more track-focused versions. So does it work on a near-2tonne saloon?

Well, to start with it’s now 70kg lighter thanks to some weight saving measures like the rather gorgeous carbon fibre bonnet with nostril vents. And the 4.4 litre twin turbo V8 now puts out 626bhp, 10 more than the Competition. These add up to a 0-62mph time of just 3.0 seconds, a 0-124mph time of 10.4 seconds and a top speed of 189mph. Speedy!

Add in a few other visual tweaks like matte green paint, gold lightweight wheels, larger rear spoiler, titanium exhaust and lots of exclusive CS trim parts inside and this new M5 model looks to be a formidable beast!
