Not all Ducati spares are expensive. Here is a brand new genuine Ducati Monster rear light assembly part no. 52540073A. £30.72p inc vat. Bargain in my eyes. Always check new genuine parts prices before buying used.

This is a footpump and tyre pressure gauge, they're needed for the most basic of maintenance required. Just saying.

You wouldn't believe these parts were the same. Bigger plug lead is due to a petrol leak from a broken fuel level sender nut. Seems to be getting more common so owners of 748/916/996/998, all ST,s and various fuel injected Monsters keep an eye out for it. Some earlier Monsters and 851/888 have similar looking ones which are aluminium and don't fail. Owner of this one reported a smell of petrol. If in doubt do get it checked, consequences could be worse than various swollen rubber parts.

Here's an interesting one, 1198S belt change. First 2 photos show how difficult this was to see. Basically both fixed idler pulleys were on the wrong way around giving a misalignment of approx 3mm. First thing I noticed on stripdown was a lot of rubber dust I the belt housing.
Unfortunately the pulley on the vertical cylinder wouldn't come off its stud due to lack of clearance to the frame.
Dropping the engine to gain clearance involves exhaust, airbox removal etc so I worked out that the most cost effective method was to destroy the pulley and fit a new one. The pulley does clear the frame when fitted the right way around so can be fitted without disturbing anything.
Some very careful drilling later, the old pulley is off.

Something to watch for if you're looking for a new "YT12B-BS" type battery, very popular amongst Ducatis. In many cases this battery is fitted laid down or on its side. The one in the picture is such a battery but the sticker should stop you fitting it to certain models.
I suspect this point isn't mentioned when you buy it and you may well disregard it. In the past I've had issues with batteries of this type leaking acid, hence the sticker?
So, I'd recommend asking your supplier if the battery they are selling you is suitable for mounting to your bike as acid dribbling out of sight down the back your engine for example, may be costly to repair. Even better check they're insured against a claim for such damage to your Desmosedieci, Monster? etc?

Merry Xmas everyone, hope you all have a great day whatever you're doing and wherever you are. With luck the smell of oil will go before Val puts the turkey in.

Here's a good example of a not that frequent fault. This time it was a 748 oil pressure light not coming on. Fault traced to a connector pin that had pushed out of its housing.

A reminder of the importance of rear hub maintenance, this is on a 1200 Multistrada. Video shows water dripping from the hub whilst it is being removed.

Moral of the story, everyone should own a steel rule, hacksaw and file. 748 fairing screw 1, battery Nil.

Hi, another thing to look for, plastic fuel sender nut. These nuts can fail and if you're unlucky could cause a really bad fuel leak. All 748/916/996/998/ST Models/ Some Monsters. Alloy replacements are available, wiring plug has to be removed to fit the new nut and this can be tricky. Certainly worth looking at and even maybe replacing even if your plastic one is Ok?

Bit of help needed please, anyone out there in electrical supplies? The yellow relay will be well known to owners of older Ducatis, up to 2000 or so? Part number was 28740141A, however it is now no longer available from Ducati. It has Bitron B047 on it and it is rated 12v 40amp. An older one I have has Omron instead of Bitron on it.
The black one is a similar looking relay I bought, however despite pin orientation looking right, it doesn't work.
Before I start looking at altering connections on a bike to get the black one to work, can anyone help with supplying the correct Bitron or Omron relay?
Thanks, John @ BVT.
