Clayton knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game this morning, playing a team flying at the top of the table, but the lads were up for the challenge after recent performances.

From our prospective, Clayton were by far the better side, creating a number of chances but being unable to find the back of the net.

Both teams went into the interval level at 0-0 after a bit of a back and forth affair but Clayton enjoying their football.

HT: Clayton Albion F.C. 0-0 Westwood Park F.C.

The game continued in a similar manner, with Clayton creating chances and being unable to find that all important opening goal.

Around the 70th minute in the game the deadlock was broken with Westwood’s first shot - Their lad striking an unbelievable effort from 30 yards out, smashing the ball into the bottom corner!

Clayton tried to find a way back into the game and were even denied a penalty in the final moments, questionably, but it wasn’t to be our day, despite the better performance.

There’s not much more to say about the game, our manager and the lads have a lot of respect for Westwood, but they let themselves down today with two sin bins and 7 yellow cards. They were very lucky to finish the game with 11 players on the pitch with their players putting in a number of atrocious tackles.

Manager Danny Turner had this to say:
“Really proud of my lads today, they did themselves proud on and off of the pitch. They didn’t get involved with Westwood’s antics and outplayed a top team, not to mention the stone wall penalty we should of had in the closing minutes, but these things happen.”

Good luck to Westwood in their attempt to win the league.
