Ever wonder why a DIY paint-over still looks wrong, or peels off a few weeks later?

Paint needs something to grip. If you spray straight over a scuff with no prep, the new colour sits on damaged paint. It often shows the mark underneath, peels at the edges, or fails early.

Proper prep means sanding to feather the damage, then priming so the new colour keys in. That's the difference between a patch that lasts and one that doesn't.

Driver tip:

Bird droppings bake rock hard in the sun. As the day heats up and cools down, the metal panel underneath expands and contracts, but the hardened dropping doesn't move with it. That stress is what cracks the paintwork.

What to do: soak and rinse bird mess off with plain water as soon as you can, before the sun bakes it hard. Don't scrape it off dry, because that just drags grit across the lacquer.

If you're already left with a cracked or dull patch, scuff or scratch, we can assess and repair it on site.

It’s when grit or road debris nicks through the clear coat (and sometimes the colour) down to primer or metal. Left alone, water and salt can creep in and the spot can spread or rust — especially on the bonnet.
