We’re putting learners in control of their car driving test bookings 🚘

If you’ve got a booking or you’ll be looking for a test soon, make a note of these dates 📅

31 March 2026 – only 2 changes can be made to a booking

12 May 2026 – only learners are allowed to book a test and make changes

9 June 2026 – learners can move their booked test only to nearby centres

By changing who can book car and change driving tests, we’re aiming to reduce the re-selling of driving tests, giving the power back to learners 💪

With snow, ice and rain making an appearance in the UK, it's important to prepare for any journey you might be taking.

In this blog, John Price from the Automotive technical support team at Green Flag recommends a winter emergency kit that can be kept in the boot of your car, and can help you out if you get stuck.

It includes:
- An ice scraper and gloves
- A high-vis vest and waterproof coat
- A phone charger
- A blanket
- Sturdy shoes
- Jump leads

🚗 Driving anywhere this week? Take extra care.

Amber and yellow snow warnings are in force across the UK – meaning icy roads and poor visibility.

- Slow down
- Leave extra distance between vehicles
- Keep lights on and windows clear of snow and ice

In bad weather conditions, consider delaying your journey. Stay safe and check local updates.

If you’re driving in icy or snowy weather conditions, remember to pack an emergency kit. Doing so means that you’ll be better prepared if you get stuck or if your vehicle breaks down.

You may want to pack:
- de-icer
- an ice scraper
- a torch
- warm clothing and boots
- a first aid kit
- jump leads
- a shovel

❄️ Take great care and drive extremely carefully.

'Don't put drugs in the driving seat' is an important reminder ahead of New Year's Eve about the consequences drivers can face if they choose to drive after taking drugs.

THINK!

In wet weather, stopping distances will be at least double that required for stopping on dry roads. This is because your tyres have less grip on the road.

In wet weather:

- You should keep well back from the vehicle in front. This will increase your ability to see and plan ahead.

- If the steering becomes unresponsive, it could mean water is affecting your vehicle's grip on the road.

- Ease off the accelerator and slow down gradually.

- The rain and spray from vehicles may make it difficult to see and be seen.

- Be aware of the dangers of spilt diesel that will make the surface very slippery.

- Take extra care around pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders.

Do you know what Dual Carriageway means? 🚗

A road that has a central reservation to separate the carriageways. 🔍

If you're driving home for the holidays, don't forget to plan your route ahead of time in case there's extra traffic or unexpected roadwork on your journey. 📋

A few mph over the limit can have serious consequences.

THINK! Is pushing your speed worth it?

Winter doesn’t just make journeys colder, it changes how your car behaves. Rubber stiffens in low temperatures, rain and slush reduce traction, and black ice steals grip without warning. Before you set off, check tread depth and pressure and look for cuts or bulges. Those few minutes restore the grip you’re counting on when the road surprises you. Arrive in control this winter.
