Not all important vehicle repairs are visible from the outside!

This Ford B-Max recently came into DS Motors Leeds LTD for some essential mechanical work.

🔧 Wet belt replacement

🔧 Clutch master cylinder replacement

🔧 Fresh engine oil and oil filter

So, what's a wet belt and why is it important?

Unlike a traditional timing belt that runs dry, a wet belt operates within the engine and is lubricated by engine oil.

Over time, these belts can deteriorate. If left unchecked, deterioration can lead to serious engine problems and potentially costly repairs.

Correct maintenance, the appropriate engine oil and following the manufacturer's replacement recommendations are especially important.

At DS Motors, we undertake everything from routine servicing to more involved mechanical repairs.

Spotted this beauty on our travels in Heartbeat country, and it got us feeling a little nostalgic!

The good old Ford Anglia! 😍

Remember when cars had character, dashboards had actual buttons and you didn't need a diagnostic machine every time a warning light appeared? 😂🔧

From Cortinas and Capris to Escorts and Anglias, there was something special about the motors of yesteryear.

They certainly don't make 'em like they used to!

🔧 Anyway, enough reminiscing... back to reality!

💪 Steering suddenly feeling like arm day at the gym?

This Peugeot 206 was in the workshop needing a new power steering pump and fan/auxiliary belt. 🔧

The power steering system is there to make steering considerably easier. When there's a problem, you may notice things such as:

⚠️ Steering becoming unusually heavy
⚠️ Whining or unusual noises
⚠️ Changes in steering assistance
⚠️ Fluid leaks, depending on the fault

This one received:

🔧 New power steering pump
🔧 New belt

😵‍💫 Car coughing, juddering or just generally having a bad day?

This Nissan Juke came into DS Motors with a misfire.

Rather than simply replacing parts and hoping for the best, the fault needed diagnosing first.

The problem was traced to:

🔧 2 of the 4 ignition coil packs
🔧 Crankshaft sensor

The faulty components were replaced and the problem dealt with. ✅

A misfire can have a number of possible causes, which is why proper diagnosis matters.

And no... if two coil packs have failed, we're not automatically going to sell you four just because your engine happens to have four. 😂

This Freelander came into DS Motors for its MOT and major service.

The major service included:

✔️ Oil & oil filter
✔️ Air filter
✔️ Pollen filter
✔️ Fuel filter
✔️ Front wipers

Its MOT also identified some work that needed attention:

🔧 Drop links all round
🔧 Nearside front track rod end

These are components that form part of the vehicle's suspension and steering, so they're certainly not things we'd recommend ignoring.

Repairs completed, service done and another busy day in the workshop. 🚗🔧

⏰ One of those jobs that's much better done BEFORE there's a problem...

This Ford Focus was in with us for a timing belt and water pump replacement. 🔧

The timing belt is a crucial part of your engine, and if it fails, the resulting damage can potentially be considerably more expensive than replacing it at the recommended interval.

While we're in there, the water pump is replaced where appropriate as part of the job too.

💧 Water pump replaced
✅ Back on the road
