A proper service.
This BMW 116d was in for its major service, with:
🛢️ Oil & oil filter
🌬️ Air filter
🌿 Pollen filter
⛽ Fuel filter
🌧️ Front wipers
Filters aren't particularly exciting bits of a car, but each has an important job to do.
And keeping on top of routine maintenance can help your vehicle run properly and give us a chance to spot wear before you're standing at the side of the road wondering why your dashboard has suddenly lit up like Blackpool Illuminations. 😂

Mercedes C220 with hardly any power... what would you suspect? 🤔

This C220 came into the workshop suffering from poor performance and a serious lack of power.
The culprit?
💨 A split turbo pipe.
A relatively simple-looking fault can make a huge difference to how a vehicle performs.
With the turbo pipe split, the system can't operate as intended and the driver can experience a noticeable loss of power.

Sometimes a service uncovers a little more than expected.
This Ford Fiesta came in for a major service, including:
🔧 Oil & oil filter
🌬️ Air filter
🌿 Pollen filter
⚡ Spark plugs
🌧️ Front wipers
But while checking the vehicle, we also found it needed:
🛑 Front brake discs & pads
🔩 Both rear coil springs
🛞 Both rear tyres
All the additional work was identified and could then be dealt with rather than being left to become a problem further down the road.
And that's one of the reasons regular servicing matters.
It's not simply changing the oil.
It's an opportunity to properly look over the car and find wear that you might never notice from behind the wheel.

Repairs completed ✔️
Brakes are one area of your vehicle where "I'll leave it a bit longer" really isn't worth the gamble.

You don't need to know your way around an engine to keep an eye on a few basics.
🛞 Your tyres
Check the pressures and have a look at the tread and general condition. Don't wait until MOT day to discover they're worn!
🛢️ Your oil
That little dipstick under the bonnet isn't just decoration. 😆 Running low on oil can cause serious engine damage.
🌡️ Your coolant
Especially before a long journey. Always check it when the engine is COLD.
Five minutes every now and then can potentially save you a much bigger headache later.
And if opening the bonnet leaves you thinking...
"Absolutely no idea what I'm looking at." 😂

🚗 What actually happens when your car fails its MOT?
This VW Golf came in for its MOT and needed two important repairs
🔧 OSF wheel bearing: excessive movement had been found.
🔧 Rear brake caliper: seized solid, which also meant the handbrake wasn't operating correctly.
Both are exactly the sort of faults you don't want to ignore.
An MOT failure doesn't automatically mean disaster or a huge repair bill. It means something has been identified that needs putting right before the vehicle meets the required standard again.

⚠️ This is why checking underneath a car matters...
This Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 diesel needed a little more attention than it first appeared.
During inspection we found:
🔧 Nearside front wishbone ball joint worn with movement
🔧 Nearside front outer CV boot split
🛞 Both front tyres extremely close to the legal limit
The wishbone was replaced, a new outer CV boot fitted and both front tyres replaced.
Some vehicle problems aren't necessarily obvious from sitting in the driver's seat.
A split CV boot, for example, can allow grease out and dirt and water in, potentially leading to damage to the CV joint if it's left.
And those tyres? There wasn't much rubber left to play with! 😬
Regular checks can catch wear like this before it becomes a bigger problem.
