Another rotted electrical component that has suffered from corrosion due to the salt on our roads.

This one is an AHC pump from a 200 series that sits behind the rear right wheel mudflap.

Fortunately we can supply a new one with a 40% discount so not as painful as it could be.

Musical cars today as we shuffle them around to make way for our long awaited new workshop that is due to go up next week.

This will give us three more bays, finally some height for ramps and a dedicated wash off and rust proofing bay alongside it.🥳🥳

A customer was complaining about his turbo not working after having been to a body shop for a respray.

Not sure why they would wrap an air filter in plastic, but there you go 🤦

Are you looking for a fresh start in 2022?

As our current apprentice comes to the end of his training and transitions to the role of full time experienced mechanic with us, we are looking for a junior mechanic to join our team either directly or we can help you via an apprenticeship scheme with the local college.

Background
We carry out a broad range of jobs from basic servicing, engine and driveline work, suspension upgrades, performance tuning and restorations, through to preparing vehicles for overseas expeditions, which can include fabrication (storage systems), electrical (creating new wiring looms), plumbing (shower systems!), hydraulics (power steering and hydraulic winches), etc.

We regularly receive cars from around the country for detailed diagnostic work, picking up the pieces from where dealers and other garages have struggled to get to the bottom of the problems.

Whilst we mainly work with Toyota 4x4s, there is a lot of variety in the work we do and plenty of opportunities to learn new skills. We expect the range of vehicles to expand in the future as we expand into our new workshops and take on more general 4x4 servicing work.

We are increasingly taking on more restoration projects on older Land Cruisers from the 1970s-1990s and have even carried out a ground up restoration of a Land Rover 101 Forward Control!

We work closely with a broad range of customers from all over the UK, and even some from abroad, who are all passionate about their vehicles resulting in a much closer relationship between us and the customers than your average garage.

Responsibilities:-
• You will be required to work alongside our existing mechanics, assisting where appropriate as you learn the ropes of what we do.
• As you prove your abilities you will be expected to take on more tasks on your own under loose supervision.
• You will ultimately be aiming to be able to carry out vehicle maintenance and repair work to our high standards, working on a broad range of mechanical and electrical systems including carrying out diagnostics and fault finding using basic tools through to the latest computer diagnostics tools.
• You will be trained on filling out and maintaining the paperwork relating to the jobs you are working on.
• You will also be expected to ensure the working environment is kept clean and tidy at all times and to contribute to the maintenance of the workshop equipment as you learn to use it.

Required Experience and Qualifications:-
• A genuine interest in becoming a mechanic.
• A strong willingness to learn

Required Skills:–
We expect you to be able to demonstrate the following key skills that are fundamental to any job you may be applying for:-
• Ability to work within a close-knit team
• Ability to work quickly under pressure whilst still paying attention to detail
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Ability to follow written and spoken instructions
• Ability to ask questions when you don’t understand things.
• Full clean driving licence or reliable alternative transport.
• Must have own toolbox and hand tools – if you don’t have any tools we can help you get started building up a kit.

Standard Hours: 8:30-5:30 Monday to Friday with half an hour for lunch.
Salary: will be negotiable based on experience.

A bit of dash work today, stripping out the dash on this 80 series to replace the heater matrix, a job that gets harder on later models with more wiring, air bags and strengthening bars.

The customer should finally have a nice warm drive home😅

A little bit of Northumberland in the workshop today from the wheel arch of a 200 series with AHC issues.

It always amazes me how much mud can be carried around under these cars, even from those that never go off road with the chassis filling up with a fine silt.

If you can, use a garden sprinkler to rinse off the underside of your cruiser 2-3 times a year, particularly during and after winter.

The soaking from the sprinkler should wash away the silt as well as any salt from the roads.

Some final road checks being done on a side project undertaken for one of our longest Land Cruiser customers.

We have swapped out the original engine and 5 speed conversion and fully rebuilt and fitted a Marina 1.3 and auto box, adding twin carbs and custom header for a bit more poke.

We had to make some major alterations to the chassis, engine and gearbox mounts to get it all to fit as well as raise the suspension for a bit more clearance over the London speed humps.

Some tracking and a custom speedo cable and it should be ready to go.
